So my battery died in my key fob. I thought there was some sort of warning message on the dash when the battery was low, but never got any warning. I was surprised the battery failed after 7 months, is this normal? I see some posts that people are claiming years before they have to replace the battery. This is my second failure, the first was on the credit card key and now one of the fobs. Anyone else experiencing premature battery life on their fobs?

There've been a couple of posts on short battery life. IIRC one cause was having your cell phone too close to your key fob causes it to keep bluetooth active and draining the battery.

Toyota says 18-24mo AVERAGE for fob and 12-18mo AVERAGE for key card. Frequency of use and conditions will significantly impact whether you are in, above, or below the average. In addition, no two coin cell batteries have the same lifespan, and that's a variable that is equally hard to control.

I would be happy with 18-24 month average, 7 months on the fob and 3 months on the credit card sounds like an issue with the key fob system design. In the meantime I'm turning off the fobs after use and placing the credit card fob in a faraday bag.

It takes about five minutes to change the battery, eh?

my first one died in under 2 months with no warning whatsoever - just went from working normal to not working at all. coincidentally, it died at a walgreens, so i bought a new one and replaced it there. i found it very odd, so i brought the original one home to confirm with a multimeter, and it was indeed dead.

About a year. I have mine replaced by the dealer. That way if they tear it up they buy. Plus the do it fro free including the battery.

That's the bitch I have, no warning! I was out and about, couldn't open truck doors, realized key fob was dead. I didn't want to use the key because it sets the alarm off. I used my phone to unlock the doors, dash said no key detected, then placed dead fob on start button and truck started just fine. Coincidently, the app health said key fob battery was good, go figure.
