I got my Kenwood UHF NX-5800 mounted with my KCH-21 (Handheld Control Head) microphone. I’m using the full Hondo Garage setup. The mic hanger, cell mount. These are sweet so you just have the RF Deck under the seat and the radio head is built into the microphone. I use it for both UHF HAM and Commercial. The NX-5800 is Analog, DMR, NXDN and P25. We have a huge DMR Repeater network here in Colorado.

That's a nice set-up you have there. What did you do for an antenna mount?

That little guy will do the job, huh? I ask as a total newbie. I am studying now to test for the Technician license next month.

It may be a bit much for a newbie that isn’t using digital modes or NXDN which is the Kenwood digital standard called Nexedge. That rig with the licenses and handheld mic will run around $2,000. I’m a Kenwood manufacturer rep so this is a demo for commercial purposes. I do like the Kenwood amateur products as well. Much more cost effective for strictly HAM use.

How did you get the vent to stay open that much with the hondo mount or is that just the camera angle?

No. Stayed open just fine with the Hondo mount for me. It is wide open. Super tight.

I like that setup. I have the Hondo Garage mount. How is the radio mounted? I can't tell from the picture.

I know this is a couple of years old now, but I'm also interested in how the radio is mounted. I'm getting the exact same setup but with the Kenwood NX-5700 and KCH-21R hand set. It's a nice clean setup for a 3rd gen Tacoma. Wondering if you used brackets or ??? Thanks.
