I saw Seth from Kenwood on one of the 5 Star Audio clips talking about these new units. Dean asked him about optical out and Seth seemed to indicate that only a tiny portion of the market really wants it. I guess it’s not worth it for them to include it. But he also said they are thinking about future improvements.....

Has it got single or dual cam inputs. Recently discovered mine had two so ordered another cam for the front.

If I’m not mistaken, it can take up to four cameras!

I kept the stock depth. I think I may have even field the mounting bracket to try and push the brain further back. It took a couple of tries to get it where I want it. Once I found the depth I moved the screen. Just don’t remember where.

Multiple. So 4. I wired in the pig tail for the front cam, just haven’t gotten around to it. Plan is to gut the interior this summer for a full system. Will probably add passenger smart handle, 120v in the center console, among other things.

Kinda wonderin’ about that part myself. Pure sign wave inverter but I don’t wanna hear any noise or interference with it. Otherwise, it’s not goin’ in.

There’s a pretty detailed article somewhere on TW that shows you how to add it which is essentially jumping the the one in the bed. From what I remember it’s in the center console.

Yes indeed. Bottom of the console but I’m not sure if it’s the best spot with heat ‘n all. Have to see how much room there is elsewhere.

I just installed the jvc version, couldn't wait for the kenwood backorder. I used the kit crutchfield sent, but mounted the trim ring with double sided tape to the factory opening, then added holes to the brackets to push the unit back another half inch. Kind of a pain to install the screen after that but we'll worth it.

    Hi Logan,

Sorry, the best pictures I have have been posted, and I no longer have the truck. My guess is it probably sticks out maybe 1.5 from bezel. It takes some getting used to but def worth it in the end!

I just dropped mine off at Cartoys to get this installed. I will take some pictures once everything is installed. Let me know if you want any specific pictures.

    Thanks

Cool, eager to hear (and see) how it goes. Curious about your setup. What head unit do you have now and is it a JBL system? I've got a 2018 w/ JBL and watching to see one "make the jump" to this tablet-sized system.

So overall are y’all happy with the way this large screen protrudes? I’m looking to upgrade to apple CarPlay and want to maintain wireless connectivity. This seemed to be the way to go.. I’m sure the screen takes time to get used to but for the pioneers that have had these are you loving it?

I am loving it! It works great, and I would install it again in a heartbeat. Wireless CarPlay works flawlessly.

I have had the Kenwood DMX1057XR since December. When I first installed it, I was really questioning my choice of getting this one over the flush-mounted Kenwood that I was considering. It did not take very long for me to really love the larger, floating screen. I couldn't be happier with mine.
