    Hi, I need some help...

I purchased a kenwood dnx7100 off eBay from a reputable dealer (according to their feedback) but I received a dnx710ex instead. It is a refurb unit and has a 7100 serial sticker from kenwood on top of the original 710ex sticker. I called them and they didn't even know what a 710ex is so I think it is an honest mistake. (Actually, I think Kenwood may be at fault here b/c of the refurb) They said I can send it back to them (on my dime) and they will ship another one. The 710ex appears to be the same thing as the 7100, just badged different on the faceplate.

    Is it worth exchanging?

please respond quickly, I need to decide what to do asap.

    Thanks for any help.

Maybe they can check to see if all of their stock are the EX model? No sense sending it back if they're going to send you the same thing again... unless you want your money back in that case.

Does anyone know what the heck the dnx710ex even is? I can't find any info on it. Is it a dealer designation? foreign?

    Thanks.

I think it is the eXcelon version. Usually the eXcelon line is first year runs that have the latest and greatest features and then the next model year they down grade the eXcelon line to regular. Might have been a left over eXcelon that was just down graded.

hmmmm....if that's the case I wonder if I should just keep it. Don't they usually have better build quality on the eXcelon models? My only concern would be updates, but if Kenwood refurbed it to a 7100 I would think it would have been updated then?

Nah, send it back. If for any reason you want to sell it it will be worthless if nobody recognizes the model number. If the ex does designate eXcelon then any model you get that's not an ex will have been newer, who knows what they changed (fixed) on newer models.

Hey, I was looking into this forum for advertising oportunities, and saw your post.

Dont send it back. The unit you got is exactly the same as a DNX7100. The only reason they have a different model designation, is because the EX series are made for OEM installers. Yes, those are the ones that go to the dealer and install a unit on a new (or used) truck for $700-800 and the dealer charges you $2000.00 for it!

There are other EX units out there, and there is even a unit that is not for the retail market called the DNX-210EX which is a 2-DIN with a Garmin Nuvi screen built-in, no DVD.

The whole point of making a different model designation is so that the customer that paid $2000.00 at the dealer cannot go online and compare the unit to one on eBay at half the price. Same thing happens with Best Buy, CompUSA, Costco, WalMart, etc. The manufacturers sell the exact same item to all of them, and change the model so a shopper cannot cross-shop one store with another.

FYI, the 710EX (and any Kenwood model ending in EX) is an Expediter piece designed for car dealer sales.
