Ok guys so Ive had my 2015 TRD Pro for over 8 years. It has about 97k on her at this time running great. I know I can keep her running for another 10 years easy. I only put on about 8k a year. The truck does everything I want. Ive looked at the 24 tacos and not really into them. I test drove the 24trd pro and wasnt impressed, especially for 70k.

I really like the 23 and newer Chevy Colorado zr2s but Chevys never really had the best reputation. However there are several things I like about the new ones. Interior is great beside lacking storage. The multimatic suspension and front and rear lockers. 33inch tires stock. I do have the opportunity of getting a 24 loaded zr2 for almost 10k off msrp.

After selling my truck the money side of things will be a wash. So if money was no issue what truck would you get?

10 year old tacoma with almost 100k or a brand new zr2? I know most people will say the tacoma will still be running when the chevy dies lol. Reguardless of if she runs another 10 years 20 years pays it toll on all the other wear items of a truck.

    What should I do? Screenshot_20241118_214944_Gallery.jpg

Those new ZR2s are pretty badass. As much as I love the Taco it would be hard to not get a new ZR2 if your getting a screaming deal.

You have a last year, 1-year only 2nd-gen low production truck, with pretty low miles for it's age. (driven only +-avg 10,000 miles per year) Highly sought-after and only about 1,200 were produced in 2015.

Hold onto it as long as you can and just let it appreciate. I have owned a few Chevy trucks and I liked them, but if it was mine, I personally wouldn't give up a 2015 TRD Pro for any current model Chevy. YMMV :proposetoast:

Keep it without a doubt. No car payment is very important as we transition into 2025. My 2013 is @ 93k miles & paid off. Never letting mine go

Good looking truck - hope you keep the pro!! :mudding:

Yeah I agree with all you guys. Definitely dont see many 15 pros! Its nice having a paid off truck along with last model year and only 2nd gen pro. Its such a proven and reliable rig! I really do love the truck but its definitely got me thinking.

Money wise its seems like a wash. I put on 8k miles a year. Sell my taco in 5 years with 140k miles for like $20k est. and save $24k by not having a payment (350ish/mnth) so that 40ish to put down on something new in 5 years. Thats also minus maintenance on the taco. Orrrrr buy zr2 and have it payed off in 5 years and it would have around 40 to 45k miles on her then. Tags also will probably cost 850ish or more at first then go down.

I think long term proven reliability is a big win for the taco.

Its just nice to bounce these idea off you guys so I appreciate it!

I just bought my first Tacoma. I paid cash. It’s a 2022 with 37k miles. While I was shopping for a Tacoma I looked at the Colorado new on the lot and about choked after looking at the sticker price. Hard pass. The one I saw was $62k.

You do you, but I’m not jumping into high interest loans and high vehicle prices.

Not sure if ZR2 is the best trim.

or how money is a wash. The two trucks have a price difference.

if I actually spent a significant amount of money on a truck it would have a solid axle. And probably diesel.

you say you’re impressed with suspension and lockers. That’s why people put suspension and lockers.
    Like Fox 2.5 and lockers.
Including the leaf packs you should have had to handle the camper shell weight and not be sagging in the pic.

if I was considering Chevy I’d walk into the shop of a dealer and ask a good tech if the truck and brand is a piece of shit or not. Us mechanics are pretty honest about that type of stuff.
For example I myself if I work for a piece of shit brand on piece of shit vehicles it can be great because there’s a lot of work to be done when folks make the wise decision of buying them and they fall apart.

that is who knows what a vehicle and brand is. Not a salesperson.

not sure why you mention 33” stock like it’s a factor.
33’s fit easily on a Tacoma.
I have 35’s and it was not crazy.
37’s or 40’s would be crazy. Which is what a gladiator can do with its off road solid axle and off road fender, bumper, and engine location to axle relation design.

not sure what you mean by wear items. My radiator is old and has bent fins and dirt. So I bought a new one for cheap. Less than a car payment.

If I buy a new truck it’s not going to come with any good shit I already have and should have like skids sliders front bumper rear bumper etc

it’s your choice. There are many variables to consider not necessarily listed in OP.

who knows. Maybe the transmission engine and interior feels better.

Pretty sure that isn't a $$$ wash. Truck cost and paying money to borrow money on a depreciating asset makes no sense... Some would say the 2nd gen TRD PRO is as good as it gets. There is definitely something to be said about that new vehicle feeling though... Until it's not new anymore.

2015 TRD Pro. Dude, that's like the pinnacle of Tacos.
The problem here is that you're even considering it. That tells me you have the itch for a new truck and that itch is not easily scratched.
I just don't think I could buy a Chevy right now. I'm not a Chrylser fan but IF I were going to give up my Taco, it would probably be for a Mojave Gladiator with a manual transmission.

But I'm not giving up my Taco.

Your going to sell the Taco outright....right? You know they'd hose you on the trade.
Buy the Chevy and keep them both. You'll know in 2 or 3 months which one is for you. If its the Chevy the Taco will still be worth big bucks. If its the Taco, you lose a little bit on the sale of the lightly used Chevy but you dont have to deal with buyers remorse.

If money was no issue, then I'd keep the Tacoma and buy the Chevy to see if I liked it. That was the question right?

Our local dealer happens to be a Toyota/Chevy dealership. I spoke with one of the lead mechanics there and he was commenting on how much specialty tools Chevy's needed compared to Toyota's. The 2nd Gen is a pretty simple truck, and I like that. Want better suspension, traction, power? Great support and options out there that are reliable. I wrench on my own vehicles and I don't need it any more complicated than necessary.
Ultimately, your choice. I know someone who's happy with their ZR2, but rarely drives it.

Look up the transmission issues GM is having with the mid size pickups...STILL Having it....Nope...I would keep your Taco and do some interior upgrades if you want. New Infotainment system, Katzkins with heated seat option etc...Im having a hard time of "OHHH NEW...SHINEY"....with the new Lexus GX..talk myself out of it every week!!

If it were me, I’d keep the taco. I have a ‘15 sport and I’m never selling it.

The interest rates alone are a deterrent for me at the moment. I was looking into trading in the wife’s corolla for a 4Runner and the payment just doesn’t work for us. Anyways, if you’re asking opinion, I’d say keep the paid off reliable Tacoma.

You might be getting an itch for something different. Maybe get a little project truck or something. That’s what I did. I picked up a 1988 Suzuki Samurai and it cured my craving for something different. Gave me something else to mod.

    Just my $0.02
