    I just picked up my 2022 SR5 last week. I'm new to this tuning stuff. What does it do, how does it do it, and is there any real benefit doing it to a daily driver truck? Mine will spend its life on pavement and I will be towing a boat on the weekends. Does tuning it void the warranty? Thanks in advance for your input!

    I got a KD Max Pro + tune at 1800 miles on my SR5 and it makes a world of difference in enjoying your new vehicle. It eliminates the annoying throttle lag and the frequent transmission downshifts at the wrong speeds. I was using the ECT to change shift points before my tune and do not use if after tuning. The engine is quieter without all the down shifts to increase RPMs. The tune takes care of that. It is even more important at speeds above 50 and with the cruise on. It should reduce wear on the transmission and isn't supposed to affect your warranty. Of course that might depend on the issue you have. @TWTaco can help you find a tuner if you contact him.

    Every warranty available.
    If i understand the flavors correctly there are 4 levels of tune. I tried lvl 4 first, then settled for lvl 3. FWIW

    Level is likely referring to throttle choice. For Tundra, 2GT, T4R, and 3rd Gen MT’s, the throttle is designated by “+” signs.

    + = a little more than stock
    ++ = more than that
    +++ = I hope you like it spicy
    ++++ = Race mode

    Most 3GT MT’s land on +++.

    That's a good way to measure MPG...dividing how many gallons by 145 miles per 1/4 tank.

    Going on a week of OTT, coming from KD-max multiple versions. My review-

    As I agree with those who say that KD is way more aggressive tune! My biggest issue was the throttle control or lack there of. It was much better than stock, but so unpredictable in stop and go traffic and in winter months or wet roads. I had a custom tune done but still left a dead spot for first 1/8 of petal-feathering the throttle. It either didn’t respond or lurched you forward so much you almost hit the vehicle in front of you. I tried all the tip in models. In winter and wet months , constantly roasting tire even in city flat stop and go-got annoying and ate tires. It also would hold shifts uphill a little long for me until I backed of throttle. I do appreciate the great customer service I received. Again I preferred it over stock but still needs tweaked or something. I don’t understand how some guys don’t have this issue and some of us do?!

    So when my tuner came to town, I talked with him told him my issues and he suggested I try the OTT tune. That throttle control issue was gone. Shifting seems even smoother, it does seem to be a less aggressive tune geared more toward daily driving with out the hard up and down shifts. I haven’t used cruise control yet, I have noticed that on hills it shifts much better and doesn’t hold I think it’s 4th as long as Max did. I feel it makes it a much more smooth ride and in this short time I seemed to have gained 1mpg. Lead foot driver as I prefer to get from point A to B and C as fast and safe as I can- so I don’t expect good fuel Mileage, stock and KD I got usually between 15-16mpg we have bunch of hills as well as stop signs or traffic light at every freaking intersection which doesn’t help mileage. The other great review I have is I have light tip in because I’m teaching two young’ins to drive and wanted it easy as possible, I can hit ECT and have medium throttle tip in at a push of a button, which is nice and I think I may switch to medium tip in next round. As you still have full throttle control and that is huge for me. I’m not sure exactly what has been done differently between the two tunes but I appreciate all the work and time these guys put in get these dialed in. Other than maybe getting more mpg and performance (which doesn’t usually go together) This is the perfect tune for my style of driving!

    If your main concern is throttle control, best shifting-OTT wins hands down for me. Great product!

    I just picked up the new kdmax tune. I like OTT tune. The lite throttle is perfect and has noticeably more get up and go. Still has the down shift problem going up slight inclines on the highway but I really blame the 6 speed transmission. I don’t speed so 60-65 on the highway and in Drive it will downshift. So the way I stop that is by driving in S5 mode on the highway and S4 in town. If I get going flattish or down hill I will go to S6 then back to S5 just before an incline so it will maintain speed without having to downshift. So far fuel mileage is same as stock which is around 21 mpg which is fine because the truck just runs better. Anyway I will upload kdmax pro+XT and report back as to which on I like better between the two.

    These are some concerns regarding any tune I accept for my Sport.

    Wheel spin is definitely a concern.

    That's good to hear!

    That's wonderful!

    Smooth transitions and fuel efficiency improvement...even by 1 mpg...wow! lol

    Having that ECT button to add medium throttle is nice!

    Sounds like a great Tune. I appreciate your feedback.

    The Pro XT dyno “gains” are suspect. That stock run on the chart is garbage. Stock doesn’t lean out at 5500 rpm.

    Why is the KDMax stock run so weak and lean out at 5500 and kill power when redline stock is 6250 rpm? Why would they publish such a weak stock pull and why put the fueling text summary over where the stock goes wonkey? Also, why would stock have a HP/TQ dip at the same point the fueling goes weird? Where is the 3500 rpm ACIS dip on the stock tune in the KDMax dyno data? Why would Toyota run lean up to 4000 rpm? So many questions on that stock pull. See KDMax Pro-XT dyno run below:
    32C68F62-63E2-4D7B-BA51-52860319C3E8.jpg

    Now OTT vs stock is shown below. Stock fueling is clean to proper 6250 redline (as Toyota would for sure do).
    C478CB0D-CD38-436E-8D8F-B73AD2EC6309.jpg

    Someone playing games with stock dyno data to make “gains” in my opinion.

    Would you like me to source a local dyno shop and provide results from my own truck? What specific parameters of the runs would you like to see so we have a clear basis? If we can agree then I will foot the bill and provide the outcomes.

    Basing concerns on a single truck for any tune is just a guideline so I'm in for a 2nd look.

    EDIT: All i know is that the above runs were based on a single truck with multiple runs....but happy to step up to provide my truck as tribute.

    I just pointed out a bunch of funny business with the KDMax Pro XT dyno sheet. Onus is on K&D to figure out their data. They are either incapable of getting a clean stock run or misleading people. Talk to them. They published the data, they should understand it. I’m just trying to point out the discrepancies in the data presented to try to educate folks on TW.

    If you want to do your own test, I fully encourage it. Grab a stock file from VF stock folder and I can tell you how to add dyno GL. That’s all that is needed. I wouldn’t use a “locked” stock file if someone were to send you one…

    Fair enough! Nothing wrong with a few varied dynos and trucks to rule out concerns and show facts. I have some timing coming up in June where I can tick this box.....more to come...
