Toss 'em in the bed hanging out the back and throw a tie-down over them in the back of the bed to keep from sliding around.

    Also, WHY ARE YOU YELLING

    Long bed or short bed?

I have done a few things for my kayaks trying to figure out the best way. I made a drawer that pulled out to hold 2 kayaks. But, I have 4 kayaks now (two 6f kids kayaks, two 10f kayaks) So my drawer doesnt work that great anymore. Right now I have bed bars that hold the 6 foot kayaks, then I can fit 1 10f in the bed, and the other 10f can fit on the bed bars with a hit extender.

Here is the early prototype of the bed drawer

There is also using a ladder rack and making this super sweet system.

My friend has an old Silverado 2500 diesel that he'd like to get rid of for something like a Jeep or Bronco, but a shoulder injury keeps him from lifting things up high. I said that we could easily make a pulley system for his Hobie. That is pretty cool though.

I have a 6' bed, 10' kayak. I throw it in the back with the tailgate up, put a ratchet strap on it and it doesn't move an inch.

I bought a tailgate extender off of Amazon and used it to support my 12ft sit on fishing kayak. You can easily turn the kayak on its side and add a 2nd kayak maybe 3 depending on their size. The extender vertical supports can move in and out as needed.

    20210404_105209.jpg

I also ran into the issue of not enough bed tie-down points. So I also added on tie downs under the factory bed bolts. I added those tie-down points after the picture was taken with my kayak.

All ya need is some 2x4s. I'm using a Yakima rack as well(with rollers on the back, just lean it on and push it up) ( 14 footer)

(I'll build a real metal one eventually)

I have a 2021 DCLB. I just added the OEM roof racks specifically for my kayak. Kayak weighs about 80 lbs...

A 10' kayak fits easily in a 5' bed once strapped down. You can lower the tailgate, or leave it up, pick what you like. Anything over 10' and you need some sort of bed extender even with the 6' bed. The extra 1' of bed isn't enough to make a difference. I use one similar to the one in post #8.

I recently installed these racks on the cap of my Tacoma. This way I can still carry 2 kayaks even when pulling my travel trailer.

    Don't over think it.

12' or less, just set it in the bed with the tailgate down and strap it in. Longer than 12', you would benefit from a hitch mounted extension.

This is my first kayak. I've been looking at them for the past 3-4 years and finally decided to pull the trigger yesterday. It's a 3Waters Big Fish 120. I strapped it down and drove 70 miles home with no issues.

12' kayak in a short bed truck. I put thousands of miles on the truck with the kayak strapped to the bed with zero issues.
I don't use an extender unless I'm taking my 14' kayak.

This setup used to work great on my 2015. 10 ft yak, 6 foot bed. I used some KB Voodoo crossbars mated to yakima J hooks and set one crossbar as far back as the rail allows, the other about 18" forward of that. Worked great, the crossbars had a little bit of play, but I took them all over the place and never had a single problem of anything coming loose. I'm not sure I would want to try this setup without a LB though.

You're in for a treat. I got a Pelican 10ft'er from Costco a couple years ago. It has been just a ton of fun. It is stupid relaxing to get a half mile out from shore in just a few minutes and get away from people.

Just don't try to race one of those folks pedaling a Hobie. Hahahaha!
