So I was forced by my dealer to spend $900 on what they call the Karr Security System.
I've read nothing positive about this thing for the car owner, but plenty of positive things from the dealer perspective(one of which is my money).

I want to remove this thing and can't even find it.
I searched and can't find anyone on this site that has a 2024 Tacoma with Karr and how to remove it.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks,
    Daniel

I asked and they haven't replied. My guess is there is no way they will help me with this.

They told me they wouldn't sell it to me without it. So, ya, forced.

We use to install something like that ,but it was for the GPS side of the system..I think one of the Banks we used required it...

Forced to spend $900 on an aftermarket security system that you didn't want?

And I thought the $100 for "window etching" was bad. I would've said "buh-bye" to that dealer and gone somewhere else for a new truck....

you sure it was even installed? Ask the dealer where they installed it at or prove that it is there.

From what I was told all Toyotas come with this Karr thing. And there is no way around paying for it.
    I'

they put a sticker on the back window and I got an email from Karr congratulating me. I downloaded the app and don't see one thing it offers that the Toyota app doesn't already have.
From my google search it appears that the dealers want this thing so that they can disable a car remotely if it is driven off the lot and can also unlock all the doors of all the vehicles on the lot with a "simple press of a button".

I wished I had googled beforehand and pushed the dealer harder to avoid paying for it, but it is what it is now. All I want to do now is get rid of it.
Being locked out of your own vehicle or having it drain the battery are a couple of complaints I've seen.

The dealer I purchased from has these Karr systems "installed" on their vehicles, and then in the finance office, they try to entice you to pay for it. I refused, so I have a sticker on the window but no active security system. Not sure if they really installed any add'l hardware on the truck or not.

Is this thing to help the repo man?

Man, $900 for that plus some kid haphazardly splicing wires in your new ride?

    Did they use lube?

I mean you could have hiked up your pants and walked away.

You'll do better face to face. But yea, they're going to say you own it. If it's not there because of you being a big credit risk, a quality alarm/stereo shop should be able to properly remove it.

Again, nope. You could have walked away.

But since you're in a barrel riding mood, can I interest you in a bridge? Everyone would have to pay you to use it. Thousands per day.

F'ing KARR. Crap alarm, mainly installed so salespeople will have one-remote access to all the vehicles. If they get someone to pay for the thing when the vehicle is sold, they're ahead of the game.

Honestly, $900 is a hundred times more than these things are worth. And about five times higher than I've ever heard anyone being asked to pay.

My 2015 DC had a KARR alarm installed by the selling dealer when I bought it in 2017. I wasn't about to pay for it, so they disabled it. At the time, a KARR installation included a funky little remote lookin' thing under the dash (along with the hated Scotch-locks and control box behind the kick panel). That remote-lookin' thing has a chip inserted into it to give the dealership its one-remote-to-rule-them-all capability, and to disable it the dealership installs a sort of blank chip in the device.

I took everything out and returned as much of the wiring as possible to stock. I hate aftermarket alarms and their typically sloppy installations.

Here's what mine looked like in 2018.

I want to take it out, I simply can't find it.
I see nothing even close to that, and for sure if it is installed it's up under the dash.
Which is why I created this post to try and locate the damn thing :)

Not much to be done about it now, lesson learned, tuition paid, but here's a dealer locator tool. There's more than one toyota dealer:

Toyota Dealer Locator | Find a Toyota Car Dealership Near You

OP you got lied to. It stings to find out this way. They made you for a sucker. I'd be going over the contract with a fine tooth comb. If this is what you know about, there's probably a lot more in there you're paying for you don't know about yet.
