    Hello TacomaWorld!
I just bought a 2001 Tacoma SR5, extended cab, 2.4L, 5-speed, (manual windows and mirrors!) and I’m digging it!
It’s pretty straight, rust-free, and aside from a high idle that sometimes throbs, it’s in great shape.

In the three days I’ve had it, I put in a new washer fluid tank, fixed the busted passenger door handle, fixed the dome light switch, painted the hub caps, polished the fogged headlights, took off the bed liner and cleaned everything before putting it back, and done a LOTTA CLEANING. WifeUnit used her carpet shampooer machine on the seats, mats & carpet.

I’m happy to be here, and will be posting and reading here a lot.

Previous owner named her “Polly”, and my wife wanted to keep the name, so here’s Polly Pickup!

Grabbed a sweet canopy, but will need to modify the bed liner just a little to make it work. Gonna be the Labrador Limousine! (Or if the wife gets her way, “Mobile Labs”.) grabbed a working radio today and got that working, but I fear how much work it’s gonna be to add rear speakers. Fixed the driver door handle that was not working, that was fun.

Thanks for the warm welcome, folks. I’m going to have lots of questions and hopefully, I’ll be able to post some helpful stuff too.
I’m going to create a wiring diagram for the stock radio, once I figure that out. It’s the factory MODEL NO. 86120-AD020, CD/tape/radio, and only using two of the three connectors on the back, which is driving me crazy (I just gotta know what that third plug is for! Haha!)
UPDATE: OK, so third plug is for SAT radio or CD Changer. but I'm going to put this in, and I have a BT adaptor I can plug into this. That way I can plug in my very ol diPod, OR use BT with my phone. Should sound good enough.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
@Dm93 might have a clue about that plug and welcome to TW!

    Thanks!

Well, crap. Just went out to put stuff in the truck, and the drivers inside door handle I fixed wouldn’t open the door. It worked an hour ago! Thought I had it. Well, it’ll have to wait for the weekend. Really thought I had it fixed…

No srry, I looked. It shows to fit 01-04 Tacoma and Tundra but both show only 2 connectors in use, no info on the 3rd connector.

Got that door handle fixed. Figured out that third plug on the back of the radio is for a factory CD changer or SAT radio, so I’m going to use that to hook up a Bluetooth input. *EDIT: found what I needed! This thing is great, and lets me connect my phone, and a USB stick loaded with mp3's. Sounds great, too.

Put a new IAC and cleaned the throttle body and that idle is fixed. Now to get the old dog smell out of the interior…. So my dogs can put new dog smell in!

Got a rubber mat free off Craigslist and just had to trim a little off, now the dogs aren’t rattling around….
also put a new third brake light on the canopy, and got that wired (and without changing/cutting/modifying/breaking anything!)

oh yeah, fixed the switch on the dome light too. The microscopic bb on the spring was crusty AF, and using vinegar and sandpaper (and a lotta swearing while searching for the bb when I dropped it THREE TIMES) I got it working great.

Thanks! I’m not going to futz with the body/paint. It’s got zero rust, and I’m going to be banging it around, so why spend money on paint I’m just gonna scratch? Unless I need to weld in the holes they patched where the fender flares were from the donor bed, I’m gonna spend my time and money on other stuff.
I really like the way it rides and drives now, all factory. Just feels good. Aside from better speakers, I’m not dumping money into the stereo either. My goal is to have something theives walk past while looking for goodies. LOL
