I am getting ready to purchase my first Tacoma, but I haven't decided if I am open to a double cab yet. I like the idea of having a back seat, but I don't really want to give up the 6 foot bed. I don't have passengers a lot, but when I do, it is usually for a longer trip, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the jump seats are the really uncomfortable?

Yes they are. They are doable for jaunts around town but terrible for long trips. The longest anyone has put up with my jump seats is 1.5 hrs going to the ski hill.

The passengers in both the jump seat and the passenger seat were miserable the whole way. Passenger up front was uncomfortable because of how far up they had to put their seat for the person in back to fit.

Access cab = 2 person truck

hell even the double cab is cramped for adult on long trips. I can take my niece and nephews places, but there 13 and younger, since the front seat back nearly touches the rear seat, I haven't even offered that spot to an adult.
you are going to have to decide, what's more important and will happen more often? Will you be using/filling the entire 6' bed or the cab?

Thank you for the information and the picture! I kind of figured that was going to be the answer, but wanted to be sure. I am switching from an SUV because I started transporting a lot of stuff from auctions and I just cannot fit enough in my car, plus I hate asking for help or borrowing a truck from a friend. This will be my daily driver as well, so I am still a little torn. There are so few Tacomas on lots right now, that it is even hard to find one to view in person.

The beauty of the Access Cab is the longer bed coupled with the fact that it is best as a 2 person truck, which is icing on the top.
If you are lucky you can fill the front passenger seat with 'stuff' so even that seat is gone and now it is a 1 person truck.

Better yet, remove the back jump seats for added security of not having to haul people around.

Why not get a double cab long bed?

Access cab is GREAT for 2 people and a dog. I also pulled out the headrests and built a platform for my puppers. they love it over my wife's car because they can lay their head on the center console and watch out the front while being closer to us.

You can still get the 6 foot bed with the double cab. Starting at the SR5 level.

i bought my tacoma access cab because i wanted long box, manual transmission and locker.
no double cab configuration available that met those needs.
when my wife complains about my access cab, i remind my wife that the passenger seat delete mod is easy and cheap.

Luckily for my passengers I am pretty short, so at least they will have a little more leg room. I can't go without any back seat option, but I looked at a used double cab yesterday and the bed is just way to small, so looks like it will be an access cab w/jump seats.

Did you manage to find a manual? I searched last night and there weren't many. I was surprised that they were more expensive too.

I have a reverse style pet car seat with harness clips, so my pup always rides in front with me, but I can see how yours would love being closer with a better view! After looking at a used double cab yesterday, I decided I needed the jump seats and a 6 foot bed. Someone can still ride along if my dog is riding shotgun.

Lol....well it's usually just me and my dog, but I do need to take someone along if I HAVE to, so I'll just go with the jump seats.

I looked at a used double cab yesterday and decided I really need the 6 foot bed. I want the jump seats just in case I need to take some help with me, so they will just have to be uncomfortable.

That’s good! Seems today, I’ve had better conversations with a 5x8 of Sheetrock than half the people out there.

Those jumpers ain't so bad. You should find someone with an access cab, ask them to cart-you-around in it for a small spell and see for yourself. If you lived near me I'd be glad to give you a test-sit.

I decided against the double cab, so I guess if someone wants to go along, they will just have to suck it up. I am pretty short, so at least anyone in the back will have a little more leg room.

Too bad I am not close by! I wish I knew someone with a Tacoma, since I don't I'll just go with the jump seats so I'll have the option of taking a couple of people along.
