    Hello

Yesterday I went into my local car audio shop to see if they had any input on how to increase the radio reception on my new joying head unit. The owner of the shop had absolutely nothing positive to say about the Joying unit. He said he wouldn't last 4 months.

How many of you with these units have had them for 6 months or longer? How are they holding up? Anyone have a screen delaminate? Sluggish performance in warm weather?

Also - anyone using one of these with an amAmp?

    Thank you,
    Ted

Funny you should bring this up.

I bought one of the new 10.1" snapdragon HUs about a month ago. Got it installed, everything working relatively well until I try to hook up something to the USB port.

The HU crashes, won't turn on. The thing drained my car battery as it was stuck in a loop. Went to reset the stereo, but the reset button was damaged somehow (nothing behind it to click or push).

Decided to go with a kenwood single din with a volume knob and couldn't be happier. Still have a ram mount for my ipad when I use Gaia.

Did you return the unit? Just wondering about warranty/ refunds.

I have had any direct issues yet, just poor radio reception, but I swapped to an fm tuner on my phone.

Still getting used to the options. Just bummed to hear about possible longevity issues. Trying to take the input with a grain of salt.

So I contacted Joying and they wanted me to pay to ship it back to China and then wait several weeks for a replacement.

I called Amazon and explained and they sent me a replacement and told me to chuck the other one. It's smaller - 8" I think, due to stock issues.

You definitely have to wire to the steering wheel controls or you'll likely kill yourself trying to change the volume in traffic.

I wasn't blown away by the headunit. There are a lot of features for the price. I didn't think that sound quality was one of them, but that's only my opinion. I have my truck soundproofed (noico/cc/massloaded vinly), JL 6x9" components upfront, JL 6.5" in AC doors running of a Rockford Fosgate Amp with a Kicker 10" shallow-mount powered sub. The Joying had a subwoofer on/off setting that I never felt sounded right either way. I ultimately felt there was too much going on.

Thank you for your replies. I have been messing around with it here and there. Seems cool, but now I'm expecting it to fall apart. :(

If I was to bank some money on it, I'd say they don't last long at all. A few years perhaps before they either crap out on you or make it so impossible to deal with the glitches and crashing that you are forced into buying a new unit specifically dedicated to A/V and navigational functions. Kenwood, Pioneer, etc.

I had a buddy that had an all in one unit similar to the joying and that was the way the story went for him. I've seen it on other forums as well.

I personally don't like them for the reasons I highlighted above, this is not a jab at current owners, I'm just speaking what I've personally seen and the other stories I've seen over the past 7 or 8 years when these type of units started rolling out.

The android units look nice, are plug and play mostly, and offer some extras, but IMO at the expense of ease of use, reliability and sound quality. I think they are hit or miss as far as reliability as some have had great luck and others not much luck.

A deck from Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer or Sony would probably be better long term solution with good warranty support. You would need Maestro to get all of the factory functions with these so that is something to think about.
