I picked up bam beds platforms to use when I go camping about 10x a year. I didint want to eat up a big chunk of my bed space with a decked or custom built draw setup. I mounted some 2x4’s to the sides to raise up the platforms when I’m not camping with my truck which is most of the year. I wanted the extra storage space underneath for storage. Also these boards are nice for people peaking in almost like a false floor with all my tools and gear underneath. When I go camping I pull the 2x4’s out drop the platforms throw in a mattress and be good to go. I was looking for light storage bins or options that would fit underneath when I had the platforms lowered. There’s about 9” of clearance when the platforms are all the way down. I found these jet sled jrs that are pretty cheap about 65 for the pair. You can fit 2 side by side with about an inch to spare and they are only 8” tall and stackable. If anyone else is looking for a cheap pull out draw/bin storage these are the way to go. Plus they have so many other uses. Hauling a deer out from a hunt, carrying some fire wood etc. Great solution for someone who’s not a full time overlander or mall crawler.

What's interesting to me is the boards that you used to span the width of the bed. Did you make them yourself or do they come readymade? I would think that plywood would deflect (sag) too much in the middle.

Oh, OK. My concern would still be that the boards would sag in the middle when used as a sleeping platform, since there is no support there.

I have no idea. That laminated wood looks pretty solid. Thinner plywood would be different. It is pretty simple to add a support down the centerline.

I do the same thing with my ice sled in the winter, but for grocery shopping :) Fill the sled up, drive home, then I just pull it out and all the food is right there.

I thought the same but they are pretty stout even when I climb in I’m 230lbs. When I go camping and use them as a sleeping platform I am going to throw a 1x6 board across the front and rear for extra support and piece of mind

Sorry to bump an old(er) thread, but I’m looking at these bambeds but like you I currently use a larger jet sled as a pseudo drawer in my bed. Looks like it’s 9.5 inches tall, and wouldn’t fit under the bed if it was put on top of the bed rails. Could you post a pic of what you did with the 2x4s to add space underneath? Could you sleep on the platform with those 2x4s in place, just with lost headroom?

The jet sled jrs fit under without the 2x4's in place they are only 8'' the next size up was too tall. I have the 2x's in place because i am not an every weekend camper. It was more important for me to have more space underneath for everyday use, when i go camping just take out the 2 thumb screws on each side pull out the 2x's drop the platforms and throw in my mattress takes 2 seconds. Love having the extra space underneath to create a higher false looking floor for people who might want to peak in just sees the boards not my gear or tools underneath. You could sleep with the bam beds on the 2x4's but you're losing 3 1/2'' of headroom not something i would want to do even with a mid rise topper. Could always just cut them down to give you only what you need to clear for the extra height of the bigger sled. I will snag some more pictures tomorrow

I recently added some L channel to the top of the 2x’s the boards are tight to the bedsides when they are sitting on the rails but the bedside tappers out as you go up so they had left to right play sitting up on the 2x’s. Bolted some scrap aluminum L channel from work to the top and some soft sided Velcro was tired of hearing them bang left and right each turn I took. Love the set up perfect for my needs and it extremely modular within 2 minutes my bed can be completely empty or throw a mattress in and good to go camping. I like the decked and draw setups people build but I wanted something I could easily remove or stack to have full access to the bed.

Thanks so much for posting this. Exactly what I was looking for. Going to make myself a diy set of bam beds and these jet sled jrs are perfect for storage under the platform.

I’m not sure the camo was a few bucks cheaper that’s why I grabbed them. Made some pull out sliders and left over L track to tie them down set up works well and gives me full bed access in no time. I leave 1 full with gear and tools that always stay in the truck and the other empty which mostly sees groceries. Works well with the bam beds boards for privacy and an extra flat surface. When I camp I pull the 2x4s out to lower the platform for more headroom. The extra 3 1/2 of height when I’m not camping is useful.
