I did something similar, but used the d-ring in the floor. I put two rings in the channel, one at the rear and the other ahead of where the can sits. I took an ordinary ratchet strap and added an extra hook. One hook goes in the rear strap. The strap then goes around the top of the can where the second hook catches the forward ring. The hook at the mechanism end goes into the d-ring on the floor. The can is held in across the front at the top and diagonally across the front. I generally put a ground cloth over the can to protect it from the side of the bed and the strap mechanism. Crank it down and it stays put.

My only concern with the D-Ring setup is security. Was looking for something I could lock. Preferably metal straps, but I think the D-Ring may work for now.

One thing I'd recommend (but haven't found the time to do it) is getting your gas can lined with Line-X. Of course, just the exterior away from the spout area. This does a couple of things for you. It keeps it from rubbing through it's own paint as it vibrates around in the truck bed. Additionally, the rubbery surface provides extra grip against the surface you're trying to secure it against. I found that the painted surface of the can against the composite bed moves around A LOT unless you really cinch the strap or bungee cord tight. This will solve that issue.

Seems like an easy way to improve the overall quality of the can and make transport easier.

Do those come with a spout? If so, how do you like it?

The spout is separate from the can, but works well... the only catch with the scepter MFCs is getting your hands on them in the states...

There is a guy who sells used military surplus ones on the "other" buy and sell or you need to find a buddy in Canada to buy a couple and ship them down to you - the latter being the better option since they are pretty reasonable brand new and readily available in Canada. I scored a pair of Ebay a while back, but last time I checked to pick up a 3rd they were outrageously expensive. Im hoping my summer adventures take me up to Canada this year and Ill just buy another one while there.

I didn't know this thread existed! I just made my own custom mount system that seems to work really well! Check this out guys.

I have four jerry cans for water and two for fuel. I wanted a rack that would hold all of them in place, keep them secure while driving on trails, and prevent theft. This is what I came up with. Total material cost from Home Depot was about $350.
