I've got a 2020 Pro with JBL stereo. I rarely, if ever, hear base coming from the subwoofer behind the seats. I have the base adjustment turned all the way up. Is there some type of simple fix for this such as replace the subwoofer in the box? Thanks all!

Mine seems to do pretty well for a stock sub. Maybe make sure it’s not unplugged or something.

Try turning the bass up if the base isn’t getting it done.

Seriously, you aren’t going to get much out of those subs. Even though it’s JBL, it’s still a stock system.

My 2019 JBL system sounds pretty damn good. The bass hits hard and fills the cabin very nicely. Something must be unplugged. Any idea where the amp is? Also is highly depends on what the music source is. You won’t hear a lot from the radio but from your Bluetooth on your phone you should definitely hear it.

The amp if i understand correctly is bolted to the assembly panel the sub is built into.

What do you use for music. I had to adjust my Spotify equalizer and then the head unit but it will kick. But yes there is a noticeable difference from JBL in the new 2020 head unit than prior gens I had.

First thing, bass is subjective. My wife thinks there is not enough in my truck, I think there is too much.

So what are you comparing it to?
Remember its a factory 8 inch, its not going to rattle your teeth or shake your mirrors. You can start by replacing the subwoofer itself, you will need a dual 2 ohm sub. If you are still not getting the bass you want, you can try adding a more powerfull amp for the sub (it can be wired into the factory amps signal)

If you still need more then you will need to remove the rear panels, remove the factory sub completely and put in a 10 or 12 inch sub in a custom box, run new power wires and a bigger amp.

Is there an equalizer in iTunes? I’d try that.

Mine will rattle the windows depending on the song. On occasion it will start to distort at higher volumes but a quick restart of the system will often help. Also, if you have an iPhone, I read somewhere to turn off the volume limit and sound check and play around with the EQ settings

Make sure this is turned off too. Mine was on when I took delivery.

Can you explain the wiring into factory amp signal? Been trying to get my 12 in to work properly but jbl is a pita. Works but it seems a hair delayed.
Also with bass turned up on head unit and the paper factory sub thumping the doors rattle, guess woofers are tying to add bass too in the door speakers. With aftermarket 12 in nothing rattles

Base, how low can you go......

Something tells me that you are looking for a higher level of bass than a factory sound system has to offer (even one with a subwoofer). JBL sound systems in Toyota’s are also famous for being tuned to protect their speakers from failure under warranty. That means that the output levels, and the frequencies that the woofer plays are limited to keep them from having to replace speakers due to aggressive listeners.....

Your best solution will be to install an aftermarket subwoofer and cabinet, along with a dedicated amplifier for that. Besides that, you won’t have a smile on your face from the “base”.

You would just use the output of the factory sub as line level inputs on the new amp.

The way I have it now is: tapped into the stock sub terminal then to an loc then to new amp and then sub. Guess that’s what you mean? Be nice to have a cleaner signal, line pre amp. like I said it feels a bit delayed. Turned bass down on head unit so it’s not as noticeable.

JBL = bad for sound upgrades.
If you want best sound, start 100% new with the head unit, amplifier(s), speakers, and sub.
This is due to all of the neutering that JBL does to the sound.
A preamp signal from the head unit that is full volume only, with a digital control to the amp for volume means that you can only catch the sound at the speaker level. The speaker level sound is all equalized and crossed over, and also typically changes at different volume levels.
If you want to see that in action, hook up a spectrum analyzer to the amp outputs and play some pink noise from the head unit. The response will tell you the whole story.....

For those of us with the older systems (entune 2.0), I don’t think these settings are available.

Correct, but he has a 2020, that automatic sound levelizer was on when I took delivery of my 2020, when I turned it off sound improved 10 fold.

I keep my ITunes EQ OFF for everything including my BOSE noice cancelling headphones for the airplane. Adjust everything with the head unit only.
