I'm not interested in a whole system. I don't want to give up my storage space behind the seats and want something that is easily removable, hence the JBL Basspro.

Have you looked at the basspro micro? Its dockable, so you leave the dock (amp part) and you can remove the subwoofer part.

I went straight from the OEM headunit rear out to the speaker level input on my amp, I have zero distortion in my sub.

You either had hardware issues or bad equipment choices...or both.

Well the cool thing about the Jbl unit is that it is fully self contained. it has its own amp, lca and also has the high level inputs.

Like my life choices, im sure is was bad equipment. I used a schoshe lca and my amp is from the early 90s.... ended up selling everything in hopes of getting this jbl.

the j/l audio has one with the amp also in it . I'm pretty amazed at the sound from this little sub .I have to turn down my bass setting to -4 so I don't get to much bass lol . I cant comment on the The jbl one .But JL audio is a really good product compared to jbl .

Go with the all in one JL Audio options, especially if you've had a full system before and know you want real bass.

There's just no way that tiny little buzzy plastic enclosure from JBL (or any of the other little plastic all in ones) is gonna get it done.
