Question: Is there a way to have both high and low frequencies generate through the 6x9 door speakers?

So I installed new speakers on my 3rd gen that came with the “premium” JBL Entune system. I got tired of how muddy the low end was and the clarity was less than satisfactory.

I went with a budget-friendly Infinity coaxials both front and rears. Eventually, I would wire in a 4 channel amp.

Assuming the fronts have an active crossover somewhere or in the factory amp because only the lower frequencies are being heard.

So far bass response and clarity in the mid/low range are so much better than factory. I can always purchase a set of tweeters for the dash but I wanted to see how the coaxials perform prior to that.

    Next on the list:
Sound deadening 4 doors and rear panel
Fast rings for all door speakers
    4 channel amp
Find a way to mount my 12-inch CompR and Kicker CXA6001 from my previous Yukon.

The OEM amp does all the crossover settings for the system.

Did you experience any improvement in sound or is that just limited by the factory equipment?

there’s definitely improvement in the low end. Since it’s the JBL system, the crossover is cutting the high frequency from the coaxials I installed in the fronts. Low end is definitely improved but the highs are still meh. I’m looking to do a a 4 channel amp here soon along with subs.

To replace the stock amp? Curious what you're gonna do with a sub. Thinking of going with a different box or try to utilize the stock with a shallow mount sub?

The stock setup has tweaters at least in the front right? If you ran with the same factory wiring then your assumption is accurate. I am not sure on the rear but at least thats how my 2nd gen is setup. I picked up some Focals which have been on sale. they are their budget friendly ones for the front. $130 and the rears for $79. You should be able to find an infinity setup for not too much if you decided to swap them. Prob would be cheaper than adding other stuff.

Subscribed to thread. As I am a fellow "JBL upgrade" owner myself, I have come to realize that the "premium" sound system is anything but premium. It is a giant hunk of muddy shit.

I mean what the hell were the Toyota engineers thinking? It is the most phoned-in system I have ever heard. I guess they thought people just wanted the unbalanced subwoofer and that's it.

To the OP, did you upgrade the rear-door speakers? I see the round speakers in your pictures, which I am assuming are the rear-door speakers in the access cab...or the double cab? For these speakers, stock, they are basically muddy, low-level garbage...almost as if they are not receiving any signal strength at all. Curious to hear how speaker replacement helped in the rear-door department.

I did replace the rear doors with infinity ref 6.5s. You won’t get much from the factory amp unless you either gut the system or in my case, installed a JBL Fix86 to fix the factory EQ and sum the front channels which allowed me to get a clean signal to the amps for front stage and sub.

unless you are amping the rears, I wouldn’t bother replacing the rears.

    my set up so far:
    Focal flax 6.5 fronts
    Infinity ref 6.5 rears
    Pioneer 4 channel amp
JL audio 10tw3 in a mr. Marv box
    Kicker cxa600 mono amp
JL Fix86 for summing and de-EQing the factory amp

Originally ran an lc7i to sum the front channels(terrible idea for JBL systems)
