I've done it, no issues just to change a tire.

But I wouldn't work under the truck unless it was on legitimate jack STANDS.

I lift it from there all the time.

Edit: don’t lift it from there.

so what do you guys think that Toyota never included that area as a lift point with the exceptions of the holes and the crossmember

Yeah, I would think if you’re in a situation where thats all you have would be okay ~ with some of the above statements, but for other ideal applications wouldn’t seem necessary if you have access to for ideal jack points.

The bump is 100% a lift point, I would never lift from that rear cross member.

I always lifted from the front bump or from the control arms when I use a jack.

Absolutely not, not only would it not be stable but I have dented that from jacking.

Impact load is WAY more force than statically loading with a jack.

Yeah that metal is thin but it has no issue sustaining a static load, dropping on it offroad onto a pointed rock or other obstacle is MANY times the force the truck can exert sitting still with no moment. When you're talking about 4k pounds even a few inches can result in exponential force applied.

Yeah agreed there, I usually jack up by my 3/16 plate skid belly armour but I have jacked by the cross member there before just to get it high enough to put a stand under it.

Same things with hi-lifts, use it when you need to but realize it's sketch and know your danger zones (such as underneath) and stay out of there.

When on the trail if you have to do really sketchy shit and be under the truck use your spare as a fail safe.

Sketchy bad angle even using ARB's hi-lift jack point due to terrain.

    IMG_20200902_142155.jpg

I also made some "special tools" to use my bottle jack in a drill because screw hand cranking!

Yeah that was fun, I was kind freaking out the whole time that my leg was going to give out (had some surgeries I'm not fully recovered from yet.) the whole time which is why I made the thread just in case I got to a point where I couldn't continue but I managed.

Was absolutely beat after, so beat I forgot to upload the (really not impressive) video of finally getting out.

Need to sit down at my computer and edit it but I've been so busy playing catch up since I got out of the hospital.

Yeah the wingie wing bolts always coming loose and catching on things that's what drove me to going to the junkyard getting some extra Toyota truck jacks and op rods and hot metal glue gunning them together. I like that Toyota screw pole jacks are kind of their own jack stands at the same time and they're more stable than scissor jacks for sure.

I still keep my practically untouched jack and rods that came in the Tacoma in the cab cubby they live in but now that I have high lift points on all 4 corners I doubt it will ever see duty, still 1 is none and 2 is one and all that.
