My tacoma has recently broke down. I was driving on the highway and I started
to smell the clutch burning so I pulled aside and called road side assistance. Keep in mind the truck has only 30000kms and it has only been driven by me. Now toyota refuses to cover the work as warranty as they have claimed, this is a wear and tear issue. I have been driving manual vehicles for over 10 years and this has never been an issue. I have attached a few pictures and I am open to your ideas on what you think the main issue could have been.

    Thank you,

Wow, that is one crappy looking friction plate. Go aftermarket, if the bastards don't cover it.

What do you think the main cause of this failure was?

Yes, the car is still under manufactory warranty. Now they are refusing to replace the clutch as they are claiming it to be "tear and wear"

If you didn't ride the shit out of it, it looks like the friction plate material disintegrated.

No the vehicle was never abused. I was driving down the highway at 110 kms/h when i noticed the clutch burned smell, pull aside and took it to the dealership.

if theToyota dealership says its a wear and tear issue they blame you for the damage not the design or the clutch integrity

That's what they are claiming but I have been having multiple issues with this vehicle. It has been to the dealership multiple times, last winter one of the wheels kept getting stuck, the didn't find a solution so they had to replace the rear brake system. And if they issue was wear and tear, the tires would have shown it but they still look brand new.

I have been riding manual for over 10 years, if I knew it was my issue I would had no problem paying for the fix. the vehicle has (31000kms) or 19000 miles, it would be almost impossible to burn the clutch in that amount of time.

just a question, how would you figure a clutch is totally burnt out on a 2016 truck with low miles/km? what would your guess be?

Call corporate and get that ball rolling. They'll contact the dealer and might approve the repair. At this point it sounds like you're heading that way whether you like it or not so you might as well start things moving.

I have no idea, maybe look at the tire thread to make sure, the vehicle is not used doing burnouts. Other than that, its pretty much impossible to find out specially on a moving vehicle. My guess will be the clutch plates got stuck and as the car was going at a high speed, it created the friction and burned the clutch. Otherwise, I have no idea.

I have been in contact with toyota Canada, especially since this vehicle has spent more time at the dealership than any other car that I own. Thanks for the support.

But the clutch is supposed to get "stuck". Do you mean it slipped?

Yeah, slipped from defective friction plate material. Look at that worn, pitted crap.

but Proseur has 63k miles on her MT and she says she cannot burn the clutch out, it must be of the identical design and materials as the OPs?

Yeah, I will probably be dealing with this issue for a while. Hopefully I can find a number to contact toyota corporate, as their road side assistance number was worthless on appealing the warranty decision.
