    Hi all,

Just curious as to anyone who has had quality issues or mechanical problems after taking possession of your new truck. Below is what I experienced, just curious what factory assembled it, timeframe of assembly and when you took possession.

I purchased a 2023 TRD OR in Jan 2023, assembled in Baja California in Dec 2022. After taking possession the very next morning I started the truck and got a check engine light! Received codes P0441, P0442 and P0456 stating a malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle or automatic transmission. I immediately took it to the dealer. They stated it would have to be diagnosed and gave me a loaner vehicle. Dealer called 8 days later and stated the charcoal canister had a hairline crack and was causing the errors. They stated they would order the parts, got a call the next day from the GM stating the part is 27-42 days out and gave me two options. Keep the loaner or they can take the part off of a 2023 TRD OR that they have arriving in 4 days. Skeptical as I am I asked if I could see the truck that the part was coming off of to ensure I wasn’t receiving a used part off of something else on their lot. He agreed and went in and actually watched the mechanic remove it and install it on my truck…was even shown the crack! Once completed the GM was very apologetic and even paid my 1st payment. Absolutely no issues with the repair since and absolutely no other issues..quality or otherwise. Just curious as to anyone else having any issues and what factory assembled it?? lol sorry for the novel….

^Cool. The dealer went above and beyond what they would "normally" do. Haven't heard of problems with the charcoal canister, but random manufacturing defects can certainly happen.

Probably just luck of the draw on having that problem. Your dealer is smart. They just created (likely) a return customer and word of mouth advertising. Too few dealers think in the long term.

Well this is a refreshing thread. A real problem on a new vehicle fixed by a dealer who is interested in making a customer satisfied. On a Friday no less.

Lots of "moving" parts on these things. Bound to happen from time to time. There's a lot of Tacoma's built and delivered every year. It's inevitable that a few will ship with minor defects. So long as the dealer and/or Toyota take care of the customer, I don't think it's any cause for alarm.

I just purchased a 23’ TRD OR in February. Have just over 3k miles on it and no issues. Sorry to hear about your troubles, glad the dealership took ownership and got you squared away!

I totally understand the manufacturing and the potential for anything mass produced to have some defects. I am in no way upset or angry. I love the truck and extremely happy with it. The only thing I can say is after joining TW I am spending way to much money on mods lol….

Sounds like an unlucky dice roll that you rolled craps on with yours. It’s a mass produced part (and truck for that matter). One is bound to get by and it happened to be yours. I wouldn’t be concerned about it since it was taken care of.

Yeah I think the government should require one of those warning stickers on the visor that says "Do not join Tacoma world. It has been proven to be detrimental to you finances"

You won't regret that decision, I promise! Check out the KDMax Pro 9.0 tune. It's a real game changer! I tuned a truck for a guy last night that was considering selling his 2023 because the gear hunting was driving him nuts. Completely changed his mind!

I am. There are quite a few of us on the forum here. You can find a tuner in your area on the KDMax site when you're ready.
