I recently purchased the BAK Revolver X4S as it had all the qualities of what I was looking for. A "hard" cover that also rolls up for nearly full bed access without obstructing my whole back window.

Anyone have any idea if I just missed some glaringly obvious part of the install? I've rechecked everything and don't think I have. Anyone have this cover where it sits actually completely flat?

Here are some of my annoyances, and considering the cost of the cover is around 1100-1200 I was expecting the fit and finish to match the price.

    1. The little plastic caps that go on the end of the rails by the tailgate are held on my some very small and cheap plastic clips that seem to fall off often, I'm sure I'll lose them eventually...

2: There's a small hump/incline at the very front of the cover (near the cab). I feel like this should sit flush, but with the weatherstrip they provided it has this bump which is also kind of annoying... I feel like this should definitely fit flush.

I'll probably call BAK to double check before anything else, but has anyone else with this cover had the same problems?

I have a BAK G2 on my 6ft bed and opted to not install that flat piece of weather strip running across the bar below the back window. The G2 has a very similar way of mounting/sealing to the front of the bed.

I found that with it on, the top flat didn't sit flush, like your in your picture. No idea if having it on makes it more or less resistant to rain.

These covers will never be completely waterproof tho.

I thought about that or even just getting an even smaller/thinner piece of weather stripping. I wasn't expecting it to be waterproof though. I don't think there is a cover out there that is 100% waterproof that isn't a solid one piece cover.

I got the idea of not using that piece from another member here who posted the exact same remark. Seems to be there maybe because other makes/model of truck have that back bar not in line with the sides of the bed? No idea tbh.

Great tonneau covers tho, no complaints. I'd try just removing that weather strip.

I just installed mine yesterday and it looks like you used the larger (3/4 in) of the two weatherstripping pieces for the bulkhead. There should be a piece that's thinner (1/4 in), with grooves that's used when you have a drop-in bedliner. The larger one is used if you do not.

Yeah for some reason that was hidden in the box haha. I emailed BAK with the pictures to get their input and they said the same. I looked back through the box and found the correct weather stripping.

They are also going to send me new plastic caps, he said sometimes the ones that come on there come loose for some reason. Though I think I may have to end up super gluing them on anyways.

I’m still messing with mine. I removed the weather strip completely and it’s almost flat and doesn’t leak any more than it did with it. I also put a head of silicone under the rails and it stopped the leaks caused by the indentations on the top of the bed sides. I’m having issues with my 2022 with the rails sitting too low and hitting the tailgate. I considers returning it but it’s really the best design. I’m gonna keep messing with it until it works. I’ll watch this thread and update as things unfold.

I ended up switching to the smaller bulkhead seal, even though the Tacoma directions clearly state the larger one for some reason... It sits closer to flat, so I'm happy enough with that part.

Bak also sent me new caps for the end of the tailgate, though I don't think that's a long term solution, I'll probably glue them in the near future. No biggie there.

Also yes I have the same problem with my Tailgate hitting the rails too, after opening and closing my Tailgate a few times though I think the rails chipped away all the plastic it needed to on the tailgate to where it's not really an issue anymore. The cover definetley should have came with proper wedges to lift the rails up slightly.

With all that said I ended up happy with the cover, I just think for the price these minor things should 100% have been worked out.

I bought one for myself last Christmas, X4s, and like it but am also disappointed by the leaks... I know it is not watertight, but mine leaks from the rivets at the front where it attaches to the rail, where the knob that you screw down the top to the rails is located if you know what mean.

The baffling part to me is that it seems like it is the same place where on the hard top versions (MX4) there is a hose that people to the drainage holes in the bed. I am baffled that the roll up does not have that capability and can watch the drips drip from there on the underside when i roll it up in the morning when there is dew on it.

Yeah those plastic cover things seem kinda cheap too, but the really do not seem to be structural so it does not bother me.

I’ve had two Bak Revolvers now and I think I’ll try something new next. I had the same issue with the weather strip, i user the thinner rubber one that came with my previous x4 (never removed when I changed covers).

I had issues in winter where it won’t roll up, the corners continue to pop off, and it never seats and locks on the first try. Always need to play around with it. The good news is it looks awesome opened and close, and Bak Industry customer service are top notch.

Ordered one for a new truck I don’t have yet. Didn’t see this before I ordered. They do look great! Love the one piece look and open bed when rolled up

Can I put any kind of coating on it? It holds water like a fleece blanket. the raw cut edge I’m not fond of. Tape off and paint pen it I guess. I had to make a new piece for it to rest on under the window or it would have been to high like the pic above

I used a 1inch by 2 inch. I can raise it up or lower it so it’s level. Made it a little longer too and didn’t use the foam pieces. It’s not resting on the bed but I think it works great

Anyone tried to install any of the Molle panels with the railsystem dropped down from the BAK? Trying to find a place to hide my 200piece dewalt kit
