Installed the sub today and used the kicker kisl speaker level to rca adapter. The unit only turns on when the source is fm radio. As soon as I switch to any of the other sources (aux, CD, bt, etc.) the sub turns off. Even if I set the source to something other than fm radio, power off and back on it doesn't turn the sub on. My head unit is alpine cda 149bt. The remote wire from the sub is soldered to the blue wire on the Metra harness adapter.

I am thinking about removing the rca adapter and running straight to the rear speaker wires. The sub also has a setting to use 12v or dc as the remote signal.

Sounds like you have the remote turn on wired to a power antenna lead on the HU. On some HU, the antenna is only powered on when the radio is on.

You want to make sure you connect it to the Blue/White wire coming off the back of the head unit.
