I have the factory roof rack/rail system. I want to install my folding Thule kayak mounts. They bolt on. I have 4 of them. It is a pain in the F@#$ing ass. Once done I cannot close them without unbolting all 4 kayak mounts.

Does anyone have a factory roof rack with aftermarket cross bars????
    What do you have???
    Thanks

One "?" is enough, calm down...

By close do you mean put the OEM roof rack bars back to standby position or do you mean the Thule mounts won't fold closed?

I have the Yakima folding ones, but have never had problems. I don't try to put the cross bars back to their parallel-with-drive-direction with them on though.

Hey...ya i meant i cannot close the OEM bars.
I thought mounting the kayak racks to crossbars that were easier to install and remove might be an option....not sure wtf im looking for exactly tho...

You have the oem rack with 4 kayak mounts? Got a pic by chance? Factory bars feel solid for 2 yaks? Cheers

I'm not sure what your end goal is here tbh

I have the OEM rack. I only have ever used one pair of the Yakima JayLow kayak mounts. I've even had two kayaks mounted (documented option install method with these). It feels solid enough.

Well like i said i figure if i had crossbars i can mount the kayak racks to those ...while on the ground...not over my roof....then i can mount and remove the crossbars when not in use. I was just wondering if anyone had crossbars on the oem rack

I think i understand, but not sure how that's easier than deploying the OEM crossbars, attaching the kayak mounts, then setting the kayak on the roof

4 nuts and bolts on each mount while over my roof....i have to feed the opposite side one on first also...then position and tighten them. Its a fuckin pain.
Would be nice to be able to quickly remove somehow when not in use...

    I have these: https://www.yakima.com/jaylow

The pair is really for one, but in the instructions and with the straps they provide there is a configuration to mount two, but it is much harder than just one kayak per pair

In that case, how settled are you on the Thule? The Yakima JayLow has quickish releases (knobs) to disconnect them from the crossbars

I use Yakima HD bars attached to the factory Toyota roof rack.
