I know it's only a $10 mod, but would it be any better to pay the extra money for an aftermarket air intake tube, rather than removing the stock one and sticking a bunch of PVC to it?

The aftermarket intake tube will be better to some extent because unlike the stock intake tube with the isr mod, the aftermarket tube will have no interuptions or pockets for air to enter when the intake is bringing air in. There isnt any dyno test on this so I cant be 100% sure but common sense would lead me to believe the aftermarket tube is better marginally.

is it worth it? unless you NEED to replace the stock tube i dont see why youd feel the need to get a whole new intake tube thing. its not like these are race cars anyways so i figure if you can save money why not save it :D

didnt really want to cut my air box so i did the isr mod and the elbow mod and im very happy with it ... also added a high air flow filter and it compliments it quite well too.

I deleted the angry bird-shooting smiley, so maybe I'll get some more replies.

The elbow mod is where you just take that small elbow out on the left side of the box up against the fender, right? I'm waiting on a 4'' deck plate I ordered to come in, so I probably won't fool with the elbow mod and just stick with the deckplate mod. Is there a point in doing both?

I don't really feel like fooling with the ISR and putting pvc on there, so I was trying to figure out if I should just get an aftermarket aluminum or plastic tube or if I could make one myself. Has anyone tried making one? If so, what materials did you use?

you CAN do both but generally its either one or the either and individually they produce the same "gain" roughly... also if you play in the mud or in puddles you can always but the deckplate back in

I ran my truck around with the deckplate in and the elbow cut off and it had less throttle response i noticed, but at higher speeds the difference was only slight

Mine's a 4 cyl, so I'm not expecting to be gaining much anyway, just got the itch to do something. I'll probably just go with the deck plate b/c I do ride through some creeks and deep holes occasionally.

would it be necessary to reset the ECU after installing the deck plate? or let the ECU adjust itself?

From what I've read from a few different 'How To' threads, you just take the EFI fuse out before starting and, when you're done, put it back in, and it will automatically reset and recalibrate.

Hi, did you notice any difference? Sound, Throttle Response, or HP Gain? I thought of doing the Deckplate to, then read from on here the Elbow mod and decided to do that, in conjunction with the ISR mod, and my K&N Filter.

You might wait for sometime for a response 13 year or so old thread.
