Hey guys, I’m about a month away from picking up my new OR and I’ve been looking at the quote sent to me by Toyota and they’ve included “Toyo Advantage/Toyo Guard Platinum” for $2,195. Is this declinable? If so, is it worth it?

For those of us who live in the south and have no choice but to deal with Southeast Toyota Distributors as an extra layer, ToyoGuard Platinum comes as a distributor installed option on the manufacturer's window sticker (on the actual factory window sticker, not on a supplement like the dealer installed crap) for $699. While it's nice to get that extra maintenance over and above the standard ToyoCare plan that's included in the price of every new Toyota, no way it adds $699 in value. It's just an extra way for them to make more profit. As far as I know every Southeast Toyota Distributor vehicle has that added on and there's no way to get rid of it. I've never seen the "ToyoAdvantage" you speak of and the add on cost on my truck (and my wife's 2019 Prius) was $699 not $2,195.

You're buying a Toyota for a reason. Considering the odds, would you go to Vegas and bet $2,195 against Toyota? You'd be better off saving or investing that cash for a rainy day.

    Just my opinion.

The ToyoGuard Platinum is an "extension" of the ToyoCare plan for regular maintenance. From the window sticker on my 2021:

    XT900 ToyoGuard Platinum $699
    Includes:
2 Oil and Filter Changes at any Toyota Dealer
    Four Tire Rotations
    Roadside and Rental Car Assistance
Exterior Paint Sealant and Interior Protector

The ToyoGuard Platinum piece is not extended warranty coverage. To the OP: is your truck a Southeast Toyota Distributor vehicle?

The dealer adds that to the window sticker. That's not an option I can get. It's an upsell that's ridiculously priced.

Hopefully, you can. If not, but sure to use it.

I didn't mind the basic ToyotaCare too much other than it taking longer to go there than it would have been for me to have fun doing it at home. My dealer did good work, so that was a positive also.

On our Subaru, it was my first experience with a maint plan. That dealer did great work also, but the difficulty scheduling actually caused issues. Looooong story.

Just tell them no. Or walk. Or they can lower the price of the truck by the same amount so it’s wash. They can’t make you pay for a service plan.

It's not a dealer add-on. It's a distributor add-on from Southeast Toyota Distributors. It's part of the actual factory sticker, not a supplement.

Southeast Toyota Distributors are just dealers down there I'd imagine. There is no Toyota company doing that. They can't force you to buy added maintenance.

In sales, that's referred to as an assumptive close. Call them up and let them know there's been a mistake and you'd like to forgo the fluff.
Maybe they'll do the right thing, as most any dealer would have historically..

Read # 2 it’s an option. Tell them to remove. 848A1739-F6B8-4155-BE36-E40624A323A6.jpg

    Wow. $699 to $2,195?

@TacoSunday305 . Maybe ask for some accessories to ease that pain?

    Yeah.
You also don't have to pay what they print on the sticker.

That's not even a warranty, just oil changes and rotations. Decline it. Heck, even $699 is high for that, what a rip-off. I wouldn't even pay that much for a true extended warranty.

It's a lot easier to negotiate it out of the price than to have them delete it. Southeast Toyota Distributor automatically puts ToyoGuard Platinum on every Toyota that comes through their processing facility. As TenBeers said, you don't have to pay what's on the window sticker. It's what I did on all 3 Toyotas I've purchased down here, but then again, I bought all of them out of dealer stock. You may be able to do something since yours in an order.

    Yeah.
As the other poster shared, it is an "optional accessory" -- and absolutely nothing is "installed" on the vehicle. Printing it on the sticker means nothing. Sure, you won't get them to remove it from the sticker, but you don't have to pay for it.

The paint sealant and interior fabric protector is "installed". I agree with you though, negotiate it out of the price. It's what I did.

    Yeah.
Ah, I stand corrected. I used to "install" that stuff when I was 15 and worked at a Nissan dealership in the make-ready area. It comes in a $5 spray can.

Either way, it's a scam to get a better margin on the vehicle. Virtually every new Toyota I've purchased has the "paint protection" thing added on for $299. I never pay for it, and they still give me the bottle of wax.
