I noticed that there were these hairline cracks in between the tread of my tires. I drive my truck around 90 miles per day here for work in socal. I know that the sun is harsher out here so invested in some tire uv covers when i leave it parked when i dont drive. There are no visible hairline cracks on my side walls. I put about 15,000 miles on these nitto ridge grapplers since i bought them new back in January of this year from discount tires and their manufacturing date on the side of the tire says 2421(im assuming they were made from 2021?). I fill them to roughly 35 psi.

I was hoping you guys could give me some insight or advice on what these hairline cracks were.

    All helpful advice is appreciated!

What is the date on the side? I don’t believe it should look like that

It's very slight dry rot, Toyo (who owns nitto) is having QC issues all over the globe lately, but its scattered.

Glad you bought them from a reputable retailer, you may have grounds to get them warrantied that soon.

I'd see what kind of case file you can start, its worth a shot.

Depends on how deep the cracks are. Tires naturally break down for a bunch of reasons, lifespan is really only about 7 years no matter what you do.

That being said, those look pretty superficial. I'd keep an eye on them to see if it gets worse.

PS-worked at a tire shop for 5 years, saw much worse than that. Living in Tucson, the sun destroys everything rubber.

    OME and worth every penny.
Yes, in TX it's kind of common for people to replace tires every 5 yrs. no matter mileage if you can afford it. Keeps the used market fed.

Just start worrying about all the others coming at you on old tires. Auggghhh.

I just noticed that mine were doing the same thing and they are pretty close on the date. I had taken these off and gotten new tires.

I have the same issue with a set of wildpeaks that are about 2 years old.
The sidewall is also dry rotting as well.

Thank you for your business @Noelbnetz!

As others mentioned, the condition is something to keep an eye one (which we'll do during your service visits) but from what I'm seeing, this is normal weather checking.

Is this normal for how long ive had it and used it for? And at what point should i bring them in for a warranty check or replacement? The tread on my tires are still great, id hate to have to replace them before even 20k miles due to the tire rot/weather checking as you mentioned.

What you're seeing is completely normal given the use and isn't a concern unless the cracks start to reach deep into the rubber. Something to keep an eye as mentioned, but no immediate concerns.

the small cracks between lugs is very common, seems even more common if airing down regularly to go offroad as the carcass flexes so much between the lugs. As long as it's small cracks it's just superficial and nothing to be concerned about, just about every set of my tires look like that after a year. I've had MT's that look like that after 5k miles where the majority of the use is highway to trails and weekend offroading. BFG's in my experience did it the worst and most concerning amount, yet I never had any type of failure on or offroad with them before they were worn out.
