I have a 2019 TRD sport that I dearly love. The truck is somewhat unique in that it’s a manual 6ft access bed, exactly what I want. Do to neck problems I am becoming a “compromised” driver of non bsm equipped vehicles. Taking care of my problem this way would beat selling the truck. Do I have reasonable options?

But BSM is not a substitute for looking where you're going. It regularly gives false positives and misses actual cars.

That’s the whole point of making the post. Obviously, there some that are better than others. Are there systems more designed to this particular type vehicle? I was hoping to tap the experience of those non biased Tacoma owners who have had them installed. Thanks for the input.

I was a Teamster driver for PepsiCo for 35 years. I was taught how to drive defensively over and over again. That is not my problem.

I don't know why Toyota refuses to add spot mirrors on their trucks from the factory?

i got those with the intention of improving my side mirror / blind spot coverage but it turns out the stock mirrors are big enough, once properly adjusted, and i found the add on annoying...until i pointed them at my rear tires (mine swivel). now i can see my tires relative to parking spot lines and use the rest of the stock mirror for side viewing. i mounted in top left on driver side and top right on passenger side and they don't impede side viewing at all. point is, it did nothing for intended purpose but i found a good use for them.
ps. yes, quite cheap but construction just fine.

There you have it! I didn’t even think of trying them. Thanks much. I’m going to give them a try tomorrow. I’ve driven rental cars with factory installed bsm and each time the system met my needs. I’m still going to find an aftermarket bsm, if possible, but your advice will help bridge the interim.

I did as I posted it. You’d be surprised over 35 years how the company’s approach to teaching defensive driving varied. Teamsters, as well. Remedial? Yes, once a guy backed into my truck while I was in the store. Did I learn something new all of the literally hundreds of safety seminars? No, but often we did. I do know how position mirrors.

If you're open to blindspot mirror add-on, this replaces the OE mirror lens and gives you an adjustable blindspot mirror.

Not at all. The big company fleets, whether or not a truck fleet, or simply a sales/delivery fleet has huge liability exposure so training and retraining are a common practice.

    I absolutely hate this article.

Side mirrors are NOT for viewing the blindspot, they are for viewing directly backwards parallel to the side of the car, for monitoring traffic approaching from the rear. That is there intended (and legal) purpose.

If you align the mirrors as identified in this article you significantly impact your ability to maintain situational awareness of what is approaching you from the rear. Yes, there is the center mirror, but if there is ANY traffic directly behind you then it becomes near worthless to view who is coming up on your left or right.

It is astounding to me the number of drivers who don't monitor what is happening around them until they wish to do something (lane change, etc). You see it all the time, the car driving down the highway who comes up behind a slower moving car. You see them slow down, THEN start looking to see what is happening and if there is a car next to them, and then they make their lane change. You should be predicting lane changes, and if you will have an empty space to the side, WELL before you are actually in the position to execute the lane change.

You should know if the space next to you is empty or not already, because you were already watching who was coming up behind you, then you check just to make sure.

360 degree awareness and what’s happening half a mile down the road were the key points to my last safety seminars back when I was a Teamster. That’s why I’m in this position. I understand how compromised I’m becoming without total 360 awareness.
