Is there an adjustment to tighten the hood?

This isn't about the hood welds causing parts of the hood to move a bit - this is a question about having the entire hood close tighter at the front latch mechanism.

After 65,000 miles, it appears to have a bit of free play as the entire hood moves up and down a bit when at freeway speeds...

Any one know of the best way to adjust this?

Ya loosen the latch lower it and tighten it. Simple

 

Loosening the bolts wont work. They are shouldered and will go back into place when you retighten. You could spin out the bump stops on either side to make it tighter. This will leave the hood sitting higher than the fenders at each end though.

 

If they are shouldered bolts get different bolts that fit and adjust as needed

 

I'd take it to the bodyshop and have them do it, IMO.

 

There was a good amount of people talking about how the hood would loosen from the bracing. I think the remedy was apply additional adhesive. Now if the complete hood is flapping in the wind that's a different story

2016 hoods without the scoop had an issue where they weren't glued together properly and they could come apart at highway speeds. You should investigate further and take it to the dealer for them to fix if that's your problem.

 

Adjusting the bumpers would work, but it would make your hood appear lower than your fenders, which might look goofy.

You can adjust the lock mechanism up and down. Just don't adjust it to the point where you can't open the hood anymore.

 

Front body bushings have worn causing the whole front end to sag. Replace the radiator support bushings and your hood will be tight again. Also the latch isn’t adjustable unless you Drexel a grove into the two side bolts. The muddle bolt behind the plastic cap is already slotted. MKes no sense to me. Hope this helps.

There is a plastic screw in/out bumper located on the frame at each corner of hood. Adjusts the height of hood to fenders. Don't know if this is your problem or not??

 

Nah read all the posts nobody mentioned the bushings that r shit on these trucks. thanks.

 

The bushings r between the radiator support and the frame. Take a look at those.

 

If the rad bushings are worn then the whole front would sag together. Thats the last thing id check. More likely the latch spring is weakening giving it play. I wonder if OPs hood is flush to the grille

 

Does this only work on older tacomas? I tried ot my 2022l1 and it didn't seem to budget

 

Not sure. I don't have the newer service manual.

 

Get a new hood seal should correct the issue
