Is there a Taco Wave?

I left my Jeep club and am now a member of the Taco club! Officially joined Saturday with a new 2018 Trd Off-road on cement color.

Love the truck so far and glad to have a truck bed again. Honestly that is a major reason I changed. Reliability was probably the forefront reason as I have had issues with my ‘10 Jeep Wrangler rubicon unlimited that have drained my confidence in her. So she is going up for sale and between her and an older Honda, I am making a cash grab, while financing the Taco with no money down. A bit of a strategic move helped seal the deal with the 2.9% being cheap enough money

My first minor trip into some dirt I will say, she handled it well but not quite as stable as I remember my first treks in the Jeep. Granted the Jeep came stock with offroad tires more clearance and is a great machine for that purpose. I will get a second set of wheels for offroading in the Taco and some minor mods will be planned.

So I am here now. Do I wave when passing another Taco?

I was up in Yosemite for the weekend and got a few waves and stopped by a few people. I don’t think it’s as recognized as the Jeep crowd, but I’ll wave at modified tacos only.

My cousin has a Jeep and that thing is a beast off road.. sometimes I want one but then I see threads like these lol. Are they really that unreliable?

Don't think there's a "Tacoma wave" in the same sense that there's a well known Jeep wave - Jeeps are primarily known as 4x4 offroad vehicles so most owners have that in common. Whereas the 4x4 offroad Tacoma community is a rather small portion of Tacoma owners in general (comparatively). I'll wave at another Tacoma on the trails, but only on the street if I see that they built it as a fellow enthusiast. Otherwise they look at you weird for waving...

Not surprised that your Rubicon felt better in stock form offroad than the Tacoma...Rubicons especially are made for it with the front and rear lockers and other wheeling features that Tacomas don't come with stock. But there's a great deal of aftermarket support for Tacomas to get them where you want them to be. Be prepared to spend a lot of money on mods if you hang out with this crowd...

Welcome! The "Tacoma wave" if there is one, is very small. If theres a customized taco on the road, I would wave. But stock, nah. Are wranglers that unreliable? I actually considered a jeep but I went with the taco for reliability.

I usually honk at Tacos on the interstate when I pass them... but only if I have the nicer Taco... cuz I like to feel superior where I can..

Jk. But sure I suppose you can. Not all Taco owners are Tacoma enthusiasts too however. I see many old dudes rollin in stock rigs that dont even look over at me while next them at the light... (either arrogant or ignorant...) but I lock eyes with the ones that do look over... and we give eachother the "nod".

    Btw welcome to TW brother

I had a Jeep Wrangler 4x4 before and I do miss the Jeep wave, but it wasn't very reliable. I waved at tacos for a while but got wierd looks and not a single wave back so I stopped. Figured if someone waves at me maybe I'll start again, but hasn't happened yet. Besides, at least here in socal there's way too many to wave at. You'd never have a have on the steering wheel lol.

My wife has a 15 challenger. Apparently they all wave at each other. She hates it, but she just doesn't understand what that car means to the people that buy them.guess I should have bought her a k car

I have a Jeep and a Tacoma. If I'm in a Jeep and wave at another Jeep I get a wave back 9/10 times. If in a Jeep and wave at a Tacoma I get a wave back 0/10 times. If in my Tacoma waving at another Tacoma I get a wave back 1/10 times. If in my Tacoma waving at a Jeep I get a wave back 0/10 times. So really it's just a Jeep thing. Either way, I'm just a friendly person to anybody in a Jeep or Taco especially with a modified truck. Wave on my friends...Wave on.

I wave as much as possible, just like when I’m on the bike. It’s just the nice thing to do

I wish I could be that nice lol. Hear in MN there are really only modded jeeps and full size trucks, and by modded I mean 20-22" rims with 35-37" tires with garbage lifts. I just pass them being judgmental AF

Funny you say that. If I'm on a bike, running, or hiking I wave then too. I think a lot if it goes back to when I was in the military and I used to salute a lot as required and it stuck with me.

I always wave at other taco owners especially if they have a nice truck and yeah sometimes it's awkward and I don't even care

I just wave at every vehicle I pass. That way I know I'm covered.

When I lived in the city I mostly got "one finger" waves, now that I live in the country most people use all their fingers when they wave... and it don't matter what type of vehicle that I'm driving.

I wave at pretty much all Taco's unless I can see it's just being used as a disposable abused work truck they don't care about.

Lots of little home run pool companies and pest control round here like them because the base 5 luggers are cheap and the FRP beds don't get eaten out like steel does from chemicals.

I wave at Jeeps that are modded but only when it's obvious it's a toy not a trophy.

I wave at all FJZ80's and modded Tacos or 4Runners.

And I wave back to anyone in anything who waves at me because being friendly is just polite and there ain't enough of that around.

If you wave and I don't wave back either I didn't see you wave, wasn't looking for Taco's or my hands were busy shifting and steering

I have missed a wave or two from a Taco brother because I was coming off a light and between gears and for that I am sorry but I won't appologize for driving a 6MT.

I also like to park near other trucks especially when they are modded out like this guy yesterday.

Welcome to TW. Expect to be ignored by most other Tacoma drivers. It is interesting how overtly friendly the Jeep community is to strangers.

    Welcome @Montis Taco !

Like you I joined the Taco club back in October after trading in our Wrangler (b/c of reliability issues)
I miss the wave and find myself wanting to wave at every Taco I pass. Mostly because I just assume that everyone who drives one is on this forum somewhere and loves their truck as much as I do haha.

It's been two months and though I miss the Jeep sometimes (nothing beats the open air drives in the summer) I don't miss the headaches.
Have wanted a Tacoma for as long as I can remember so no regrets here.

You're going to love your truck.
