Is the TRD exhaust worth it?

In youtube comparisons I have seen, I can barely hear a difference, maybe someone here has a better audio clip?

If there is NO performance increase, what's the point?? Only two vehicles need to be loud. Motorcycles and race cars.
The mall crowd really doesn't care.

Not quite was he was asking lol.

I've never heard them side by side but hearing them individually I couldn't tell a night a day difference. But to honest I wasn't specifically trying to listen to exhaust.

I can definitely hear a difference between stock and TRD exhaust. But it's kind of a balancing act to design an exhaust that has some of the rumble tones which many people like and the annoying drone at cruising speeds, while increasing performance a bit (or at least not adversely affecting it). The only time I really hear my exhaust is a bit at idle and quite a bit if I climb on the throttle. There is a very slight drone at cursing speed which I only hear if I have the rear slider open and am not in heavy traffic.

Yeah, it’s probably worth it. It was on the truck when I bought it, so I didn’t need to decide.

Another member on here posted a side by side picture of the two exhausts. Aside from a smaller diameter muffler/ silencer & chrome tip on the TRD exhaust, they look identical. Both have mandrel bends and follow the same routing. The stock has good back pressure and sounds fine so I am just going to leave as is and install the black tip to match the black accents on my TRD Sport.

All of that provides for a "plug and play" installation. No need for a muffler shop if you're willing to crawl under the truck and do a few simple bolt on connections.

Considering the exhaust is 40% off today and code TRDSHIP seems to be getting most people free shipping, you should go for it! This Toyota TRD sale seems to be pretty awesome.

Me and @Loudog504 have the same truck with stock exhaust. His is a 17 and mine 18. His is louder than mine and the running joke is that he got the bigger engine upgrade. I haven’t heard the trd in person either. Personally I would suggest upgrading more important things like suspension and tires before exhaust.

To add some decent info and not just guesses, yes there is a difference. The TRD isn’t super loud but it’s definitely a deeper tone. It’s noticeable and you want a better sounding exhaust without gaining hp then get it. It’s expensive but still a decent upgrade.

This is it exactly. I put off buying the TRD exhaust for a long time due to the cost. I was afraid to buy one of the other ones because I'm not 20 years old and a loud exhaust would get on my nerves. The TRD exhaust is pricey but it definitely has a louder and deeper tone, but not objectionable, much better than stock.

I drove my friends MT OR 4x4 and I appreciated the sound of my exhaust for shifting points as I found hers slightly difficult to hear (mind you, I'm a bit hearing challenged)

I think it does have a better tone and doesn’t drone on the highway really. To put it into perspective, with stock exhaust you couldn’t hear me pulling up to my house, but with the TRD you can hear it but not loud it’s just a deeper tone so it’s more noticeable.

I’ve read it doesn’t have an offensive drone and sounds a little better. Have the manual and wanted an exhaust to compliment it. 40% off sealed the deal.

Is it worth it? Shrug, it was on the truck when I got to the dealership and it looked good so it was worth it. I know I'm loose with my money and my morals. I blame my mama.

Is it a pretty straight forward install. I’m picking mine up tomorrow and crawling under the truck. Any tips or is it a few turns of the wrench??

I didn’t even have to jack it up. Just unbolt the two bolts, slide the hangars from the rubber, and play Tetris to work the pipe out from over the axle
