I was driving recently in New Orleans east and seemed to notice my truck was a bit gutless. I know its not a V8 and doesn't have any high figures, but was thinking a 4220 pound would have better acceleration. I have the Trd Pro, so maybe it is geared differently? I have read a little on the supercharged and thought about looking for a used one for sale. The biggest problem is the price. Can I get some other engine modifications that can give me a little more HP with out going with a SC or something crazy? For the 4.0 SC owners what PSI do you get, HP, and does this affect MPG? How much did it cost from the dealer and install?

I thought used ones still went for like $12k on Ebay if you could find one? Toyota's supercharger at least.

My vote is turbocharger. I like turbos for trucks.:burnrubber:

Magnuson makes them now, comes with external intercooler, combine that with some headers and you're probably quicker than a stock truck with the 4.7L V8 though still don't sounds as good and will need premium gas

Only choice you have for more power is the SC.

    Too many to list..
I have the SC with the "Stealth" 2.85" pulley. Plus DTLT and a Magnaflow exhaust. Front and rear plate bumpers and all the armor underneath and 35" tires. I was seeing 13-14 MPG. Boost wise you will only see 7-8psi, Not a whole lot.

I really didn't feel that much a of difference in the power on city streets. Off road, if i stomped on it the rear tires would break loose.

In the last month I have gone to 4.88 gears. That made the biggest change. The truck is fast as hell, but my milage got worse. I'm now around the 10-11 MPG (really bad). Now if I stomp on it while rolling at 25mph, the tires will break loose on pavement.

Price wise, for the charger and my dealer to install, I was at just under $6K. That was 3 years ago.

Worth it is pretty subjective. I have one with the 2.85 pulley. If you get one the pulley upgrade is a must. The Pro does not have different gearing. The 4.0 is an older designed solid truck motor that has good low end torque and lacks higher HP. The supercharger with the pulley helps a lot.

For power comparison, if I punch it when it is wet at 60 mph on the highway, the rear end will break free. And I'm on 32s. If you weigh your truck down with larger tires, heavy armor and other modifications that kill performance the SC will have less of an effect. I've lost 1mpg by supercharging, I'm in the mid-17s with mixed city highway. Highest has been 20mpg highway. The difference at the pump is less than $4/tank if you are not completely dry.

Cost about $4500 without the tuner. It is recommended you get the OEM TRD tune, which is more reliable and available at a dealer for about $100.

Worth it? Only you can decide that. I really enjoy mine as it makes the truck a ton of fun to drive.

Will I need premium for the TRD, I would assume so. Problem is premium is so high around here.

C-load, so they are lighter which is better for power, mpgs, braking and ride. Unlike many that put heavy E-loads on.

That is because he has a very heavy truck on 35s plus a regear.

There is no kit. Turbos are going to be a build it yourself deal. So if you have to ask it probably isn't something you want to tackle.

Yes. Premium is usually $0.20 over regular. The Tacoma has a 21 gallon tank, meaning if you were completely dry to the point of causing fuel pump damage and not able to start the truck it would cost $4.20 more per tank over regular.

I'd love to test drive a super charged truck prior to spending the money. $5k is a lot for me to spend, unless I was sure it'worth it.
