It seems like with all my set of all terrain tires, there’s always a slight amount of feathering to the tread and sipes (smooth one way with the grain but not smooth going against)

is this normal with you guys as well?

Stock truck and tire sizes? Start screwing with lifts and oversized tires expect it.

    Slight yes.

This is why you cross rotate, to burn the feathering by reversing tread direction.

Not normal. I had the same feathering. Dealer aligned twice and still feathering. Went to alignment shop $110 later perfect. The tech at the alignment shop had me come back and he showed how the tires were way off from the dealer attempt to align. Now there is no feathering at all. I have checked about a dozen random Tacoma tires in parking lots and none that I tested had any feathering.

No, its not normal. If you are driving on all pavement, with in spec stock suspension, you should not see anything but even smooth wear the life of the tire.

I was at the stealer recently getting my oil change(free one where they upsell you) they have rotate the tires and said noticed some feathering. I will take to a an alignment center once it is safe to do so. Thanks for the heads up:spending:

Slightly. Feathering among the sipes of the tread lugs but not the lugs themselves… if that makes sense

My tires were feathering pretty bad, I was rotating every 5k miles as recommended but they still did it. I finally solved the issue when I put stronger suspension on my truck, I install stock trd pro suspension and the feathering went away (I did not align the truck after installing the suspension). I think much of the issue is that the stock offroad suspension has a hard time keeping the wheels controlled, so they tend to bounce more than they should.

    Stock, 4WD, Access Cab, White,
    Short answer.

NO, feathering is not normal tire wear. Any feathering is a sure sign the alignment is not correct.

Take the truck to an alignment shop.

Light feathering of tires is normal. Tires are under a lot of dynamic stress. The front suspension has toe in that will pull back to straight while driving but this can be speed and road surface dependant. Larger tread blocks flex more under normal driving conditions, wearing them unevenly causing feather. Turning corners aggressively causes feathering. Rotate your tires regularly and you will be fine. If the feathering is excessive then have the truck looked at for worn suspension components.
