Seeing a lot of sketchy stuff on the internet. Is mudify a scam? They are asking for a picture of my ID for purchase verification.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Never heard of them, did you claim Military discount or student discounts or something, that's usually the only time places will ask to see ID and they'll go through id.me to do it safely. I wouldn't comply if they're asking for no reason.

You’ve never heard of them? Their website looks like a decent sized company. They are asking about my credit cards billing address. Why would they need my ID for that

I have also never heard of them.

Anyone can come up with a website these days. Never go with someone's ability to do halfway decent graphic design as an indication that they're legit.

I always, always, look for a real address, then I Google street view that address to make sure it's a real business, verify that the phone number has a real person on the other end, and then I look for independent reviews on a site that I recognize. After all of that, I make sure they take PayPal or another secure form of payment where they don't see my cc. And all of those steps are only if the thing isn't available directly from the fabricator.

If it's missing one of those ingredients, I go elsewhere. There isn't a single thing out there that a dozen other vendors aren't also hocking.

Also never heard of them... But seems sketchy to need a photo of your ID to complete a transaction. Based on their location, they are just an importer of mostly ARB products.

I went on their site and they are using verifypass which is like Id.me so they shouldn’t be directly asking you for your ID.

Mudify looks like a run of the mill pop-up drop shipper. No thanks.

Why would you go with a drop shipper even if it wasn't a scam? In the rare case that you need customer support or have a warranty issue, what are the chances that they will pick up the phone and help you resolve it? Most don't. The vast majority don't.

What are you trying to buy? There will be a better site elsewhere.

Not intentionally going with a drop shipper. I bought a OME lift setup with them and it seems like a very niche thing to scam someone for. Just saw someone on Instagram saying that it was a scam, but i just wanted to verify. they were very helpful and seemed very knowledgeable about the suspension setup that I was wanting to buy and knowledgeable about my truck.

I don’t know for sure but I don’t tend to think so. Like I said I think they appear to be a generic drop shipper like ex: tacomabeast, tacomalifestyle, etc etc. Sometimes those transactions go fine and sometimes they are a pain cause they place the order and your stuff sits on a waitlist with the manufacturer or a warehouse.

Either way they shouldn’t be asking for a copy of your military ID. It’s also against federal law to make a copy of it for things like discounts. The 3rd party verify sites usually just let you punch in your mil email and verify that way.

    That makes sense, thanks.

First, the mind at ease moment. Most drop-shippers are not scams. Most of them have a success rate of anywhere between 90%-99%, product arrives undamaged and the customer is happy. Its that 1% moment where someone has a problem, the shipment arrives damaged, and all of a sudden find out that the vendor is mysteriously not answering emails or calls anymore from them. The odds are in your favor, and fingers crossed that you get your stuff and everything is hunky dory. I don't know anything about mudify, this is all just a gross generalization about small-business internet resellers. Many don't make it right when things go wrong because they simply can't afford to. Many guys aren't bigger than a garage and a post office, a single bad transaction can kill their break-even point.

Don't panic. Have confidence that the kit will arrive and everything is fine. Have a plan if it doesn't. Review your credit card's dispute policy, and if things go sideways and you wind up being unlucky, make sure you have that cc's deadline last-date-to-dispute posted on your fridge. The first time they go 48 hours before answering you back, give them one warning email that you will be disputing, and then dispute 48 hours after that. Don't let the transaction get within one month of the drop-dead date that is in your cc's policy.

Good luck, fingers crossed that it will all be a worry over nothing as it often is. I'm just saying, make minor preparations to protect yourself so that you don't suffer an expensive lesson.

What I don't understand is @MazeTRD need to post in various threads asking about Mudify if he already ordered?

Unless a specific item only they offer is being sold by them, can't imagine why you wouldn't go elsewhere for said parts.

Because I want to dispute it to get my money back. What's wrong with being safe. I didn't see anything that sketched me out until after I made the purchase. The asked for my ID and im making sure i dont get extra scammed. I can get my money back. A lot harder to get my identity back if i sent them a photo copy of my id

    Chargeback.

Guess what I was getting at is, there are tons of sites and vendors mentioned that are reputable, and offer TW discounts even.

I hope you don't get scammed but I've never heard of them.

Its the after-click regerts. I won't claim to have never been there myself. :anonymous:

When ebay was new, I won a rebuilt outboard for 50 bucks, including shipping. I never clued in that the 1951 model year was not a typo. Of course I got it out to the middle of the lake on its first run, where the impeller clogged and I smoked it. I'm still grateful that I had a paddle on board. :anonymous::anonymous:
