My job wants me to transfer to Colorado and I can choose to live and work out of grand junction or montrose. Which would you guys recommend and why? About me, avid outdoorsman, camp, hike, mtn bike etc. Single no kids, if it works out would stay long-term and eventually like to buy a house. Been to moab (I know it's relatively close to either) and camped and wheeled in hesperus (by durango) did imogene and camped by bird mine, all that stuff I absolutely love

Seems like they're only about an hour apart but I think montrose gets way more snow?

I’m biased but I like grand junction for its cost of living better access to other outdoor events and more established mountain biking.. that said it is only an hour away and we frequently get up that direction to ouray, the uncompahdre ridgeway etc..

Grand Junction is so central you can pop over to Moab, go over to the Mesa if you wanna avoid the heat, hit I 70 to go towards the ski hills and not have to fight the same traffic as Denverites. We have a lot more access to resources iE having multiple outdoor stores in your town that you could get resources at today… But we do live in the age of Amazon. Neither are a bad choice. Come out and visit the Grand Junction area and see what you think.

Ive always just had a weird vibe from people when im there. Have had multiple people try and steal off of our rafts when they are on the trailer when we've run into the store. If i was going to live out that way id go into like Fruita area

Yes you have to avoid the bad parts of town for sure. I know plenty of people who have had their bikes stolen too. Not as bad as big cities but you'd think people would mind their own business in smaller areas like here

I live in GJ. Love it here but I also enjoy visiting Montrose.

Take a little trip, take a little trip, take a little trip and see!

GJ is still a small town but more urban. Easy to access I70 and get wherever you want to go fairly quickly.

Montrose is much closer to the San Juan mountains as well as the Gunnison area.

Never lived there but have passed through several times. Montrose is closer to the type of outdoor recreation I'd be more interested in. I'm more of a mountain guy than desert.
