Is it worth getting 17" wheels for 33"s?

I'm looking to throw 33s under the taco but I still have stocks on. Is it wise to get a new set of 33x16s or just save money and upgrade to 17s right off the bat? I do a good bit of on road driving with a bit of mud slinging and trail crawling in between (usually once or twice a week) anything y'all can suggest will help!

I think there are more tire options for the 17" wheel around the 33" size. But it might depend on how wide you plan on going. If you want to go wider, you probably need a wheel that is wider than stock. My truck had 285/75/16 tires on 16x8 wheels and I wanted a wider tire so I went for 305/65/17 on 17x8.5 wheels. If you're looking for a skinny tire, then the stock 16" wheels should work fine.

Do you have a lift on it? If not check out the 265/75r16 thread that is a good tire size and fits on stock.

i went 17x9 with a 265/70 and it fits well on stock suspension, minor rubbing a little bit of trimming on plastic would fix. but like mentioned above there are a ton more options for tires in the 17 vs 16.

I'm still deciding that but leaning more towards the wider tires, mainly for the mud.

285x70x17 Pirelli Scorpion MT on 17x8.5 Procomp Lapaz. 2.5" Kings lift. Works great, no rubbing at all.
And yes I did CMC, hammer PWS, plus trimming. Good luck with your truck.

Truck looks great man! I'm planning on upgrading to Kings down the road. And that's the same size I was looking at

Do lots of research, there's alot more to lifting these trucks than just installing a new set of coilovers. If you're looking to seriously wheel, you have to reinforce some stuff or it just gets all bent out of shape and you will have a hell of a time keeping everything aligned.

I'm probably won't do any serious wheeling I was just looking for a little better ride quality on the road and on the trails

16" tires will have more sidewall than 17" tires in the same size so 16" will probably be less stiff and better ride quality

Skinny tires are better mud tires. Wider tires are for sand and rock crawling.

If you air down more sidewall is always better...I know we are only talking 1/2" here but every bit counts.

If I could run 15" wheels I would

I like the 17” TRD pro wheels you could stick 270 size tires on there and be around 32. There’s a big selection too.

err 265/70 I think it is

    Mud on 17s

Note some say mud tires should not be too wide, others disagree, others have no opinion, others have both opinions.

I'm leaning more towards the wider tires, mainly because I'm not always in the mud, and I also like the aggressive look of them. Also how have you liked the Fuel wheels?

I LOVE my setup. It is not exactly what many suggest:
High end Icon adjustable suspension not set at max load so it works at ideal spec. If your suspension is cranked tires won’t “fix” your ride.
E-rated BFGs. Yes Es, these are not the softest but I run them at 34 PSI, well below what BFG calculates.
    17s for looks mostly.

because of the digressive Icons I can drive like a maniac anyway.
