Had my trans fluid changed about 500 miles ago. Mechanic used Dexron vi, should I change the fluid? I changed my radiator a few weeks ago and topped it off(yes I used the at oil temp/obd connecter) I’m getting some slips going down hills but that’s about it. Runs well otherwise

What are you feeling exactly? Usually the term slip means it's struggling to apply/hold a specific gear going uphill, not downhill

Any check engine light or warning lights?

Sounds like engine braking. Sounds normal

Are you in D? Or are you manually shifting down to 4 or 3 at times?

A slip feeling coming to a stop can mean you are low on fluid.

    As for Dex-VI being compatible.....
Walmart SuperTech says it is, but I'd want to stick with WS or Valvoline MaxLife myself.

I was thinking of draining and swapping in max life. It’s valvoline dex 6 in there right now.
Also don’t think he filled it correctly considering it took me well over a quart to top it off after I changed my rad out. Wish I knew about this forum before I had him do it:D

    That doesn’t sound normal.
Mine only engine brakes if I’m on the brake.

Try checking the level and maybe switching to MaxLife or WS.

If you have a V6, your Taco takes ATF WS. If you have the 4 cyl, it takes ATF T-IV.

The data sheet on Valvoline’s website does not show that Dexron VI is compatible with either one. Their MaxLife is compatible with both. That is what I and many others use. If switching over, do a flush to remove as much as the Dexron as possible.

I would not go back to that mechanic, at least for tranny related work.

You really need to replace all of the fluid not just what's in the pan to be on the safe side...
