Is Apple CarPlay supposed to look like garbage on Pioneer NEX?

I installed a Pioneer 2440NEX recently.

The screen quality looks great in regular mode. Colors are vibrant and everything looks super sharp.

When I connect to my iPhone 6s plus and switch to CarPlay, the colors look all washed out and everything looks fuzzy.

I tried several lightning cables connected directly to the unit and the picture quality doesn't change. My phone is updated to the latest version of IOS.

Dumb question did you use Apple cord? Sometimes that fixes issues?
