Is 32 psi good to run in stock highway tires in my SR?

This is my first truck. I'm still learning the basics of truck ownership, hence this newbie question. The door placard on my new 2022 SR Access Cab recommends 32 psi in the front and back tires. I checked my tire pressures after I bought my truck and they were pumped to 37psi by Toyota. The truck has the stock 245/75 - 16 highway tires, and I mostly drive an empty truck.

Should I be running 32 psi in my tires per the door placard, or 37 psi like my dealer pumped them to?

BTW, in the Accord I sold to purchase this truck, I ran 34 psi because at the recommended 32 psi my tires were wearing as if they were under inflated.

Thanks very much for your help.

    Start with 32.

The Google 'chalk test' and do that.

    Adjust pressure as required.

One thing to note OP is cold vs hot tire pressure. As you drive, tires will heat up and increase in PSI. This amount will vary depending on tire size, tire ply, vehicle weight, ambient temperatures, drive duration etc. For most of us in North America, it's usually an increase of 3-6 PSI.

Start around 30-32 PSI cold and check via chalk/even wear over time.

Start with the number on the door jamb for the best ride. But there is also a number stamped on the tire that is the max pressure when loaded heavy. I usually find I'm happy somewhere between those 2, but closer to the number on the door jamb. I tend to run between 35 and 40 PSI. That does help a tiny bit with fuel mileage and is better when loaded. I'm usually empty, but it is easier to have a little more air in the tires than necessary than to have to air up every time I haul a load or pull a trailer.

I like like to run 33 psi in my mostly empty truck. I frequently check the tread wear and adjust psi as needed. Most TW members don’t like the stock tires that come on their truck and either change them out immediately or are happy when they wear out. Enjoy your new truck and don’t over think psi on the stock tires.

Congratulations on the new truck!

Use the pressure on the door and monitor for wear.
You can raise the pressure if you are going to carry a heavy load -- not just groceries or a few sheets of plywood.

Always check the pressure with the tires cold, keep in mind if the truck has been sitting in the sun you won't get an accurate pressure.

Shops set the pressures high so the light doesn't come on in the morning on your brand new truck.

30psi cold is the sweet spot. It will climb up 5-6 psi on a hot day but cold night.

    I believe you have a P245/75/16/109 SL; a P-metric tire. A 245/75/16 would be a euro-metric, as there is no P-prefix.
The recommended PSI on your placard is only valid for that particular tire.
At 32 psi, a P245/75/16/109SL has a load capacity of 2,172 lbs. Why does this matter? If you decide to change to a P-metric or euro-metric tire that is not a P245/75/16/109 SL, you inflate the new tire to a PSI that achieves a 2,172 lb load capacity. If you were to go with LT-metric or LT-flotation, you would inflate to a PSI that achieves a 1,975 lb load capacity(as they are not de-rated for use on trucks/suvs as the P-metric and euro-metric tires are).

I bring all this up for future reference and it might help to explain why your Honda required more than the door placard. You might have had a tire with a lower load rating that came on their stock.

As far as the dealer inflating to 37 psi...
This is pretty common practice and here's why I think they do it.
Euro-metric and P-metric tires achieve their max load capacity at 36 and 37 psi, respectively. This is regardless of the max psi listed on the sidewall(usually 44 psi). Anything above 36-37 psi is to maintain the speed rating of the tire.
Basically they're covering their ass; better to be over inflated than under inflated. Laziness might have a bit to do with it too; all tires get inflated to the same pressure.

Thanks for your responses! I'm glad I asked the question. I was getting ready to assume the dealer was correct and just run them at 37 psi. Sounds like that is way too much pressure. I'll be letting some air out tomorrow, and doing the chalk test as well. (This is the first I heard of the chalk test, too.) Thanks very much for your help.

PSI is a function of weight rating for a specific size tire. The door sticker is for a specific weight rating in that tire size only. If you are using a different size tire, that sticker no longer applies. If you know you are well under GVWR, you don't need the factory weight rating and if you are over GVWR then you need more. There is no magic number that applies to all vehicles or tire sizes.

Consult a chart if you need to: How to apply the load inflation tables (toyotires.com)

My, $.02 on the chalk test...
It is confirmation of nothing other than your latitudinal footprint; what's the longitudinal footprint look like? Modern radial tires don't deform the same as bias ply(usually LT flotation, agriculture tires) for which the chalk test was viable. Chalk, even if viable, would only be current weight; not possible weight(gvwr).

Most who use chalk, do not do it correctly. You're supposed to chalk, add 10%, and then equalize deflection by increasing pressure in the tires with lower deflection. This would be viable method for modern radial tires.

    I just wanted to add...
The recommended psi listed on the door placard is not to achieve GVWR load capacity from the tires. It is 1.54 times(w/ P and euro-metric tires)that of GVWR to account for dynamic loading of the tire.

I had a running battle for about two phone calls after a poor review of the stealer. 1) I asked they set the tire pressure equally. They countered with the light isn’t on and the system which you drive over pulls into the service area said they were good. We will rotate your tires for $39.95
Me, no thanks please just set the pressure equally on each tire as I am getting a low tire pressure light first thing in the am.
Me again, when you set the tire pressure also add about 1/2 qt of oil you didn’t fill the oil to the top fill line when you changed the oil and didn’t do the tire pressure. them, drive it over again and we will do it but I don’t believe we didn’t fill the oil to the top line, the oil probably was too clean and you misread.
Me, free service isnt really worth free if you don’t do it right.
When I see the owner at the golf club I plan to give him an appraisal of his service department. It won’t help but I’ll feel better.
One “free” service left.. I’ll go the the Indy in town.

I fill to at least 75% of the max pressure listed on the tire. I'd rather have the tires a little firmer for better handling and fuel economy

32psi is correct per your door sticker for your tires which came on it. I had my truck serviced at the dealer, on the drive home I felt every little bump in the road and the steering seemed to wander a bit, just felt jittery. Checked air pressure when cold and they had it at 37-38 psi. I set it back to normal 32 and it handles and rides like it’s supposed to again.
Running a pound or two higher up front might be fine, trust your own observations.
SR Access cab 2WD 4 cyl is the lightest of the Tacoma models, high tire pressure has more of an adverse effect than for models 300-400 pounds heavier.
