Hello I have an ipad dash kit for sale that shaneckc made. It is the front loading kit so it is removable. I have used it for about 3 months and it works awesome. But I am not using it enough to my liking(my commute is now 5 minutes instead of 45min) and would like to fund other things so it is up for sale now. I would prefer to sell the dash assembly plus the sony radio together. The sony head unit is wired for a 2012 sr5 model with steering controls and added the usb/aux to replace the factory one. I would like to get $750 for everything including mini pad 2nd gen. Will ship!

I noticed in your build you had the same setup, how long have you had it, and are there any cons?

I have a fairly detailed setup. I run iPad only with an audison bit Ten d. I am a audio junkie and I have a problem. The iPad with Sony will function like a normal radio. If I was to do it again I would go with the setup for sale.

    - pros - iPad as your radio freaking awesome. I run navigation and hema maps off-road with my garmin glo(Bluetooth sat ant)
    - cons - to my setup.
----No fm radio. Data usage. Backup camera not on display(can be added but it's not automatic)

Appreciate the info, luckily my backup camera is in the mirror. I just like the idea for Better Nav (i.e. - Google Maps, WAZE, etc.), Spotify and for long road trips can pull up movies and other type media for the passenger. Thanks again, hopefully we will hear from OP soon.

Hey guys thanks for the interest. Here are a few things.

Ipad is an iPad mini 2 cellular 64gb ATT. Bought in january this year for anticipation of this install. It is in good condition. I would like to get 300 for it.

For the kit, I have a mobile hotspot so that is how I got data to the iPad instead of getting another cellular plan. That is only because I had a hotspot plan to begin with. Otherwise the 64gb should be able to hold a lot of music/movies/apps if instead you don't want to pay for a plan. The head unit also can take a USB/aux which is nice.

As suggested by Pcyc he uses a garmin glo which is a BT attached antenna unit for around 100 bucks I think. Garmin has their own navigation app. Although I have not used this I have heard great reviews and was what I was originally going to get for navigation. Maps should work fine 90% of the time but if you have no cell reception the garmin glo should work in its place. I experienced this when in a really desolate area in another vehicle and that is what brought the glo into discussion. I don't know if it works simultaneously with music etc.

I too have the backup camera in the rear view mirror. There are kits to have the backup camera pop up on the iPad. I was thinking about adding a front camera that would be for the iPad.

Currently I have the aftermarket usb/aux addition to replace the factory so those features still are able to be used. Since the sony head unit i purchased has 2 usb options I run one to the iPad and one to this external usb. My phone is connected to bt which is nice, I can stream music from the phone and take calls easily. Disclaimer:May need a new mic. I used the sony one and installed it where the usb/aux switches are. This seemed like a perfect spot and tested when the vehicle was off. It doesn't work too great when the vehicle is on. I will include this but a new mic and routing maybe better, they should not cost a lot.

I never jailbroke the iPad which you can and have a lot more functionality. I would suggest doing this and changing the background to black. Sometimes the brightness of the iPad is a little too much when driving at night. The sony app works nicely although it can be improved on the iPad. For example playing pandora from iPad it only displays accessory attached so you don't know what song is playing. If streamed from my phone it shows the song/artist etc. The app also works on the phone so if your camping or something and playing music you could control everything while sitting outside the vehicle if you want.

Overall its a awesome setup and I think has way more functionality than some of the double dins that cost 800+. You also have the iPad which you can take out and use for everyday use. I would most likely kept this if I was using it more, but I am headed to Nepal for the winter and could use the money for the trip.

PLEASE NOTE it is currently wired for an SR5 model with no JBL/NAV/etc from oem. I am not sure the compatibility with an JBL premium/NAV OEM wiring.

Thanks for the interest. If you have any other questions please let me know.

    Grant

$950 is pretty steep for me right now, but free bump for you in hopes you do find someone to get this setup.
