    Hello
I have a 19 tacoma SR5 today I just noticed in the daytime my tach on left side and speedometer on right side aren't lit up in the daytime its hard to see especially with sunglasses on the center information center is lit up like its always been. I could swear that the lights on these tack and speedometer were lit up in daytime.. If I turn on headlights the gauges are lit up. can anyone tell me im not dreaming and that the lights should be on in the daytime . My wifes 19 camry light up dash light simply by turning in car even without lights on . Thanks in advance for any replies.

Gauges are only illuminated when parking/headlights are on

Your truck is operating as it should

Agree it can be hard to see at times but its functioning as intended

Center console divider thingy, rubber bed mat and side steps for the wife.
The Camry has optitron gauge illumination as does most of Toyota passenger cars. I agree the dark IP on the truck is crap and they should have used the same as on the cars. Toyota really cheaped out on the Tacoma IMHO.

Nothing's wrong. They're meant to only light up when headlights are on which I think is a great feature and every vehicle should be like this. Many cars these days have illuminated dashes even during the day which leads to idiots driving at night with their headlights off because their dash is lit up thus they think their headlights are on when really they're not. My commutes are usually in the dark and I see this way too often.

Newbie here - thankful for this thread as I, too, was wondering why my gauges were dark during the day and my headlights are always on "auto" setting. So what is the purpose of "Day Mode" if the gauges stay dark during the day, esp when we always have both Toyotas (Highlander & Tacoma) on the "auto" setting for headlights? Should this function be turned off? Thanks in advance for your answers & suggestions.

Dark gauges means your headlights are off. You will notice it at night and turn your headlights on. Day mode is to dim your head unit at night.
