While driving around at night I prefer a nearly blacked out interior cabin. I have adjusted the Instrument panel light control on the Multi-information display to full dim and adjusted the brightness on the Entune Audio system. It's still too bright for my liking.

My `18 Tacoma is the first vehicle I've owned that I could not dim the interior lights low enough to or even turn them off.

Anyone know of a workaround? Or is this something I'm going to have learn to live with?

You can turn off the screen of the head unit. I believe on the bottom of the home screen, but its been a while since i looked. And i assume you twisted the trip reset button to set brightness as low as possible and it still isnt dim enough for you?

So twisting the trip reset button dims the dash lights?

Nightcrawler your picture illustrated what I am talking about perfectly. Driving around under city lights it doesn't bother me. Out on country roads however, I find the reflections of the gages and buttons off the side windows annoying.

I had to load the black blank "off screen" to dim the Entune screen enough. I was hoping someone knew of a hidden menu or something I was missing.

You could splice in a switch to your entire center console. When you're not using it, kill the power.

The light that gets me right in mine eye is the gear selection light down low... That big blue D is killing... Going to get a tint strip for it..

How about changing the color? Is that something someone has looked into? Like, is there a LED behind the panel or is it a lense?

I’m having this issue too. On my old 2nd gen I turned the instrument panel backlight off all the way when driving at night. I would only briefly turn it on to check speed etc.
This 2018 Tacoma instrument panel cannot dim far enough for me.

Is there a wire I can place a switch on to fully disable only the backlighting to the guages? I don’t really want to do any mods inside the cluster itself yet, but I have no issues with adding a switch to the wires running into the cluster.

I’m also going to find the wiring diagrams and look for myself. I’ll report back.

I'm surprised that in 2017 they still use that blue color, it was all the rage in stuff until people realized it was very distracting.

Same boat, the screen (buttons) and speedo don't go dark enough at night and the sensor goes back and forth under over passes.

I haven’t noticed any changes in brightness under overpasses, do all 2018 Tacoma’s have a sensor. I also set mine on the lowest level, so that may explain that.

Blue gauges are all the rage these days. Most people don’t care about how bright they are. I can’t stand having my infotainment screen on at night, but most people I know keep those suckers on full brightness.

I would love a fix for this also. I posted a similar post a month ago and got no actual fix for the problem.

I know there’s a setting for how long it takes to switch over, probably a longer delay would help.

It would be nice to have the option to adjust all of the lights the way we want.

Better for retaining night vision. We switched from red lamp covers to blue on our boat for that reason...then we'd have to do an engine room round in fluorescent white light anyway:rolleyes:

Hope you guys get a fix for this, I too don't understand how people drive with their dash lights at max brightness.
