Installing Glove Compartment Light

Continuing my endeavors on modding my truck. What bothers me is that I don’t have a damn light in my glovebox! Installing one this afternoon. Hoping all goes well. Should I wire it to the accessory plug? Seems like a reasonable place to wire it in.

That gauge of wire looks a tad too industrial. I think if it were me, I'd go to the yard and pull a light from another vehicle - preferably a Toyota. Keep that factory look.

Im thinking about doing the same. I can't tell which way you're wiring it. I can think of at least 4 options:

-Come on when the glove box is opened
-Constant on
-Auto on when headlights cone on (at night)
-Independent switch to turn on

 

I was thinking the same thing. I have smaller gauge laying around.

 

I’m going to wire it where it only comes on when the glove box is opened. It will be wired into the cigarette lighter so it’ll work when the accessory power is on.

Hey misterkitchen, howd the light turn out? any pics or insights? Looked at my truck tonight and realized you had to disassemble 25% of the dash just to get the glove box out

 

I just put in mini battery powered motion sensor light in there. That's crazy taking apart the glove just to install a light.

Did the same. Works pretty good.

 

What could one loose in the glove box that would justify disassembling part of the dash to install a light? Just wondering...

 

I keep all my info insurance, registration clipped to my visor for easy access cops hate when you open closed compartments.....

Arm rest compartment would be a good choice for a light. A lot of stuff can get lost in that cave

 

That's why I had to get an organizer and put a motion sensor LED in the "cave" .

I also keep a LED flashlight in center console.

 

There's a bunch out there. Most are 2AA or lithium . 2.7in x 2.7in but most in Ebay, Ebay UK or Amazon .
They're all bright enough for small areas.
Placing it near the glovebox door triggers motion sensor. Center console...just stick your hand in there and triggers it. They're auto on /auto off LEDs so batteries last awhile. I have the 4th from top in black.

 

I keep one of these thin mini flashlights on top in the console and glove box as well. Take up practically no space and easy to get to.
Don't think I would want to remove the dash/glove box for fear of rattles after re-installation.

 

...and that is the reason I don't want to disassemble things unnecessarily.
It would drive me nuts.

 

Meso maps and Dome... I barely even need my headlights at night now with these bitches...
