Looking to install carpet on the inside of my fiberglass shell. Any suggestions as to which type of carpet , which type of glue, or the process ?

I've done a search that didn't turn much up! Any advice is appreciated!

Shag, the answer is definitely shag. :drevil: Just kidding, don't do that. I helped pull some out of a shell my brother picked up for free once- it was pretty gross (the Dodge he had at the time and the free shell). Look for some of the indoor/outdoor stuff like the manufactures use, it's going to be subject to humidity changes, especially if you sleep in the back (we give off lots of moisture via respiration), and you want it to not hold much dust and dirt if possible.

I've used that gray, short-nap nylon stuff that Lowe's sells in several vehicles and on several projects and it's held up well- inexpensive too. I glue it down using the carpet glue but I've also used 3M 77 with decent results. Pretty sure this is it: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Home-Office-Stock-Carpet-6-ft-Needlebond-Interior-Exterior-Carpet/4740900

Another possible option is carpet tape. It's double sided. If it gets hot where you live not sure how it will work. I have used 3M 77 many times, again I'm not sure about it holding up in very hot weather.

Over spray from 3M 77 is very sticky. If the shell is mounted on the truck, it's something to be aware of.

Went to two hardware stores today and was unable to find the correct carpet / material.

Thinking about ordering some online. Does anyone have any links?
Also any alternatives to stronger than 3M 77 or carpet tape? It can get hot in the summer..

Call the topper manufacture and ask them, they might have carpet already cut, and tell you what type of glue to use.

In Canada, I would be more concerned about the impacts of COLD weather on the adhesive...…………...

    Something stronger than 3M 77? Try 3M 99.

I used 77 on the carpet for my plywood platform. Holding fine so far but of course that isn't on the ceiling and I folded the carpet over the edges and stapled them.

My shell came with it as a free upgrade. It is a marine-grade carpet. As for installation, I won't be able to help answer that. West Marine should have a variety.

I would use something other than the 3M 77. It is pretty good, but it's expensive - and you'll need several cans. Go to an upholstery shop and try and buy a gallon of the glue they use for headliner replacement from them. They get it in 5 gallon buckets and it's relatively cheap. Bring clean containers and a funnel. You can spray it with a cheap spray gun or brush it on. This will be way cheaper, and better, than anything in a spray can, as it's much thicker. I've had great results with it.

The carpet in my ARE shell looks just like the gray indoor/outdoor carpet that Home Depot, etc sells.
