I installed a MPC remote start system and initially it worked fine. When to try it for a second time and nothing. Called their tech support which was no help at all. So I removed the whole system and the steering wheel is still locked and it won't start. Everything will turn on when I hit the push to start button, except for the truck. I've tried everything to get the wheel unlocked to no avail. Any ideas or help would be much appreciated!

Just to confirm, you’ve pulled the steering wheel a little bit out of the locked position and tried to start it correct?

I would just look over your wiring again and make sure you put everything back together as it was stock. If you had to reconnect some wires make sure they are making good contact.

If you have done this, jiggle the wheel back-and-forth as you are pushing the start button. If this doesn't work, you may have made a terrible mistake somewhere--ugh.

I have tried to move the steering wheel... I've tried moving it back and forth to get it unlocked and it just won't.

I have double and triple checked and I have everything completely back to stock

I would set the ignition to "ON". Shift out of PARK and back to PARK.
Cycle the ignition again, wiggle wheel back and forth, and see if it unlocks...

Do you have a message saying "Steering Lock - ON" when the ignition is ON?

I assume you interrupted the starter wire, how did you reconnect it? Sometimes those cheesy electrical connectors don't make a good connection or it seems secure but isn't making the connection. I really have to think it's a wire not making good contact or maybe a fuse? A remote start is so simple

I went through all of the wires that I used and made sure everything is secure.

I tried this and nothing and there isn't a message about the steering lock.

And I did reconnect the battery

Do you have a multimeter you can see if the starter wire you interrupted is getting 12v on both sides of your interruption when you crank it?

Any luck yet? Do you have to do any splicing with the MPC or we talking plug and play like the N2?

Years ago I had an F350. Some wires shorted out due to rot and blew a couple of fuses. Steering wheel wouldnt unlock, wouldnt start, no lights. Maybe start checking fuses? Its an easy thing to rule out.

Good luck. Cant imagine this is a great feeling.

It might be worth picking one up to check.

I used to install ignition interlocks (breathalyzer, functions similar to remote start) and usually it was just that the wires weren't making a great connection or a fuse got popped..

Assuming it wasnt too invasive of an installation I doubt you could have fried anything major. The only other thing I could think of is maybe the immobilizer is stopping you for some reason, you may be able to tell if that is stopping you by how it's lighting up on the dash as you cycle through the ignition and try to start. Im brand new to toyotas so I'm not sure how you would tell if that is it.

I’m assuming you have a push button?
If so you probably shorted the 12v wire pin 7 (red I believe) at the steering lock connector 7 pin plug. Check the vehicle fuses

It's a push button start and it was plug and play.

The remote start worked twice before this happened.

The lights on the dash come on as normal... Saying to press brake and push button to start.

I'm done with it for the day, it's dark and freezing out. Next step is going to be checking all of the fuses.

@Pubs656 What did you have to do to get it started? Fuse blown?

Yep. My dumba** didn't realize that there was a fuse just for the steering wheel lock.

I would've tried hooking up the MPC again if it weren't for their tech support when I called in. The guy was rude and not helpful straight from the beginning.
