Installed a T-Rex Black Horizontal Billet Main Grille, am I crazy?

Hello!
I recently installed this https://www.carid.com/2018-toyota-tacoma-grill/t-rex-billet-grilles-1208591463.html and afterwards I noticed it didn't quite look like the picture on the website.
Am I crazy or is there a black plate missing behind the grille?

With the photos of the website you cannot see through the grille but after I installed mine you definitely can. Am I crazy? Should I return this?

 

It could be that the websites photos have been enhanced. You really don't want anything blocking the air coming thru.

Return it and buy a RAD Industries grille.

 

RAD Indrustries grille. Best looking metal grille on the market. Or you could go with an Empyre off road grille.

 

YES, your grill is exactly as it should be. Looks exactly like mine, never trust marketing photos. Love the grill BTW, I bought mine because it was a throwback to my 1990 GMC extra cab longbed, lowered of course. HAHA different life.

 

I really like that, though it isn't as nice as a full phantom grille from the 90's!

I like it. Especially with the black bezel. I painted my bezel with the vht epoxy paint a month or two ago and it's already chipping in like 30 places. Instead of repainting and then trying to add a clear coat to help, I might just go with this instead.

 

You can buy the bezel in black from the factory. That's what I did. I believe it was only 80 or 90 dollars.

 

Mine wouldn't work with that grille due to the TSS sensor. It is nice though.

 

Oh dang. What about the Empyre off road grille. I am pretty sure they are capable with TSS but don't quote me. They make them for the 2016-2019

 

I have the T-Rex grill in black and there's no plate behind the grille at all. There's a small one behind where the emblem attaches but other than that it's open.

Yeah you’re crazy. I can’t believe you’d want air to pass through your radiator.

 

If you like it, keep it. We all have different tastes. Sadly my factory Trd grill is shite. I would rather have a base model grill.
