I searched pretty hard and found tons of posts where people put these on their truck but none mentioned a metal retaining clip. The last two trucks I put these on didn't get a clip either.

But my new ones that delivered last night for the 2023 Tacoma come with a metal clip.
Is that clip required or is my Super Discount Chinese Manufacturer just weird?

I went back to the listing on Amazon and neither it nor the reviews mentioned the metal clip. I'm leery about jamming more stuff up in that window channel. Is this a must do? Anyone else have experience with the mysterious clip?

I believe mine came with clips and I just followed the install instructions to put them in. Been fine ever since. Mine is a 2019. No issues at all.

I bought Weathertechs for my 22 and it came with 2 metal clips for the rear for each side. They worked fine but I found after a while, the constant vibration was scratching window. I took them off and now just use the in channel fronts without an issue.

My driver side rear WT vent fell out, even with clips. I had some leftover WT doublesided tape and used...they ain't going anywhere.

I have Auto Ventshade brand in-channel visors. They don't use metal clips, only double-sided tape. No issues with retention, they're good and stuck.

Awesome! I installed them yesterday - went ahead and used the clips. One side of the clip was smooth, the other had a metal barb. I assumed the barb was for the plastic on the vent shade side. Set them on the window and hit the button letting it ram them in home. Worked pretty good. After about an hour letting all of the tape seal to the channels I drove it. They stayed on. Even tested out rolling the window down. No issues at highway speeds.

    THANKS ALL!

I really like mine, just be careful when driving through or turning at intersections- they do cut down visibility around the front two columns so you have to look around them more.

The AVS flat black(not clear or opaque) are horrible, I had the tape on model on my 15 F150...makes the A pillar a mile wide. Although they looked good, I felt they were kinda dangerous!

I added weathertech double sided tape to my rears...had left over from previous installation. Their double sided tape is very thin, very sticky and almost clear.

Agree. I've used Auto Ventshade in channel and Weathertech on several vehicles and prefer the Auto Ventshade in channel.
