I've noticed that the inside edges of my tires are wearing. The dealer checked this at the 5K checkup & I was told the alignment is on spec & that this isn't abnormal. Now that the tires have been rotated I'm seeing the same issue after 2500 miles.

Has anyone else seen this & do they have a solution/suggestion?

got almost 28k on mine and even though there is probably about 3-5k left on the tread, I will probably put new ones on before Christmas when we head to PA to see family and hunt. I keep my tires rotated every 3-5k. have you checked your tire pressure? and the balance?

Typically tacomas run slightly positive camber, this negates this, can you try a different dealership? You get warranty alignments for the first 2 years (not sure how many miles)

Thanks for the immediate replies guys!!! I'll have it rechecked at 10K & ask for the printout this time. Will also share positive camber info. I'll probably go back to the same dealer I bought from as they have been perfect up to this point (previous vehicles & service)

According to the sensors, pressures are 31 cold & haven't gone above 36 hot. Rotated a 5K. Should be issues there.

Thanks for the advice........may take it in before 10K just to save the tires.......

Seems a little low but probably not low enough to cause issues. I use 36 cold which is about 39/40 hot and at 5500 miles I have no unusual wear.

I'll jump in on this - my stock tires are in need of replacement they are 265/70R 16 I have the option to buy 4 slightly used (under 100 miles) from a tacoma but tire size is - P245/75R 16 on the rims. My original thought was to pull the tires off the rims they are on and put them on my existing stock rims. I notice the size difference but if rims are both 16 should be fine ? yes?

Starting with another dealer visit...then my local tire dealer.....then pressure changes. Thanks guys !!

My truck has 29 PSI on the door....I ran that for 110,000 on my 2006 and the 2016 has 29 also.....

I'll stick to the 29 "on the door".. However, OP is having uneven wear, so I'd suggest an alignment.

My Taco says 30 on the door. I guess that's while I'll try the alignment before increased air pressure.

You also said something I wondered about..........why does it say [OP] after my screenname?

You are the Original Poster in this thread. Thus OP.

Tire pressure won't cause wear on one edge. Low will cause both edges, high will cause center.

Forget the numbers and websites, just do a chalk test to see how your contact patch is working. Start with the pressures posted in your door jamb and work up or down as needed till you get it right.

Not sure why a dealer would say the inner edge having wear was normal. It isn't.

Inner edge wear can be too much negative camber(less likely) or too much negative toe(more likely).

You guys are just making me more convinced.........put it on the rack......print the results.....or keep insisting there's no problem & warranty the tires!!

Tires are a wear item. Separate warranty on tires, and only covers manuf. defects.

Edge wear is not a tire defect.

I'd just find a reputable alignment shop and move ahead.

Maybe send the dealer a thank you for helping you get into real tires sooner.

I know there are good folks at dealers. But an alignment is all based on 3 things............

    1) good mgmt oversight

    2) equipment that is properly serviced and in spec

    3) a tech that knows how to use the equipment more than 'green light good', and isn't too lazy to do so

    4) 2 and 3 are dependent on 1

It's hard to know these things in a dealer enviroment, unless you know someone there personally, from other life associations, and can get the full skinny on stuff.

Same with big box shops like Firestone, Goodyears and others. They are franchises. Maybe if you know the manager or tech..........

It's not easy to know always in an independant shop, but it is easier IMHO. I'd start by going to local car shows and asking the sports car guys for alignment shop recommendations. Ask 10 and get 5 or 6 of the same, that's a place to consider.
