I’ve been looking for a Tacoma for a couple of months now and the prices just keep increasing. 2 months ago I could get a 2022 Tacoma TRD off road with 30,000 miles for around $32,500. 2 weeks ago I was looking at a similar truck and it was $35,800 and now it’s $38,500. Should I wait or do you think prices will keep increasing?

If the threats of tariffs are true, they will increase.

Check out this thread. Great discussion on used 3rd Gen pricing throughout 2024.

Dislike of the new mini Tundra style 4-banger Tacomas priced way over $50,000 is causing people to keep on trucking the older Tacomas. Why trade a fine running truck for less than $30,000 to buy similar model for at least $20,000 more?

I’d buy it. Kind of like all the people who waited to buy houses because they thought they would go down.

Just bought one 2 days ago after looking for 3 months. 21 TRD Sport 4x4 for 35. I wanted to throw up. It has 60k on it. It was super clean and an amazing service record. Had to drive 4 hours away that truck in my area is 37-38. Out of control.

People have this fantasy that the V6 somehow was the Last Great Toyota Engine. And the used market reflects the scarcity, irrational demand, and worry.

Prices will keep increasing. The tarrif worry is also driving demand.

I've been pricing new and used trucks recently. Not just Toyota. Might be time for me to get a new or newer truck. I'm seeing new trucks priced so close to 2 to 3-year old used trucks that it doesn't make sense to buy used.

I looked at some new Subaru CrossTreks with my daughter recently.
They had several used ones that were priced HIGHER than the new ones.
A few bells and whistles on those but still....

Started with a well used T100 MT, It was a beast. Went to. Gen 2 Taco TRD 6cyl.. had the Toyota frame replaced. Now my forever Tacoma SR5 2016 90k 4cyl. I think once you become a Tacoma driver you just can’t leave,

I am leaning toward the theory of supply and demand of the market; with that vast number of the so call ‘new-comers’ adding to the used car demand, we can all do the math.

I wonder if the re-possession market will affect prices in the next 12 months.
Thankfully my 2021 will be paid off in 2-3 months.

Car loan default rates are rising, but right now they're about one percentage point above long-term averages. Unless there's a huge change in default rates they won't be near enough to move the needle on used car prices.

I just checked kbb and my trade in value is 3K less than what I bought my Tacoma for two years ago. I didn’t check retail but it’s probably > than what I paid for it.

Tarrif? Buy a Tundra, problem solved. Tariffs shouldn't impact used trucks even if made in Mexico but I can see the worry of tariffs as motivation.
