Anyone using one of these? I want a scanner that can do some bidirectional work on our vehicles (ABS bleeding etc.). Any opinions appreciated?
My truck is a 2015 2.7 4WD with manual transmission.

I thought about that one a lot but I ended up with an XTOOL D8 cause I liked a tablet style scanner better, I wanted the best bang for the buck, and I didn't want to miss out on any features. I spent more money than I probably should have but I'm very happy so far. Of course I don't know what's offered on the Innova that's not on the Xtool.

It's very hard to say if one has a feature the other doesn't without owning both. I do not. I hope someone can chime in and compair the Xtool to the Innova line up. I'd be interested in hearing what's the best scan tool for the Tacoma. If you have any questions about the Xtool D8 I'm happy to help. Good Luck

I am considering that one too. Might be a bit of overkill for me, but you only live once and I am getting close to 70 .
Do you have to payfor updates with that one?

I can get the D7 for $344. I’m thinking that might just work for me.

It comes with 3 years of updates. There's about 20 updates every time I open it up. It takes about ten minutes each time.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but without the updates, I just won't be able to scan the newest cars. I'm not sure if there's any other reason to pay for updates.

I do hope this thing will last beyond the life of this truck but I'm hoping I can update then.

At my age it will likely last until they take my license away

I ended up just paying full price for the D8 cause I worried about getting ripped off, being charged but not receiving the product. I did have to clear the payment with my bank cause the money is going to China. I used Amazon. I didn't get the ODB cable with the unit but I emailed the support and was surprised to get a quick response and a cable within the week. I got mine in Dec 2022 so I haven't had it that long.

    I just ordered the D7. At $344 I couldn’t pass it up.

Quick question. What is this I have been reading about needing to check in over the internet every 30 days or the Xtool scan tools lose functionality? I downloaded and read the manual and there was no mention of that anywhere that I could see.
That’s not a deal breaker for me, but is it true?

    1st I'm hearing of it.

I watched about every youtube review I could before purchasing. I liked that Scotty seemed to use it a bunch. It has a great review from The Car Care Nut as well.

Where did you hear about this claim?.....Just curious....thanks

Toyota nation thread and one here in this forum. I find it hard to believe and there is no mention of it in the manual.

Here is one instance I found. It’s not the D series, but one other thread mentioned a D7 and 8.
As I’ve said, I’ve read the manual twice now and no mention of anything like this.
“I just got the XTOOL A30M and am very happy with it EXCEPT for one unexplained flaw.
After reading the User Manual it appears thet the device must be conected to the internet at least once every 30 days or the device will be locked and unusable.
This is a pain in the rear for a DIYer that may only have a need to use it once or twice a year.
I contacted XTOOL support and they confirmed the statement but offered no explanation.
I am not looking forward to this monthly task during the winter and if I had known this before”.

Here is the other mention in Technical chat on this forum:

(For example, I almost bought an XTOOL® D7 or D9-- until I learned just before I was about to buy that these & all the other advanced XTOOL® units have to "phone home" over the internet to central servers to re-validate its software registration at least once per 30 days, or they stop working. At which point my jaw dropped and I began laughing spitefully. "Sure, yeah, let me hand you $700 so I can have scan-tool that may no longer function at all in 5 to 7 years when you stop supporting it, and almost certainly won't function at all if XTOOL, the company, goes out of business for whatever reason"...)

This guy obviously was taking another persons word as he didn’t buy one.

Sorry about that. I just read that thread on here that talked about it. I had no idea

Is it too late for you to return it?

I really just wanted to talk about the difference in scan tools....I wish someone else would have chimed in to counter my recommendation.

I feel bad now. It's really a dark void trying to find info on these things without owning it and testing it to see how it works.

For what it's worth, I've been happy with mine so far

I still don’t put much stock in it. It is mentioned nowhere in the manual. I am going to keep it. It does what I want and even if that did turn out to be true no big deal. I had DBS surgery 2 years ago to control tremors and need to charge my implanted controller once a week. I don’t consider pulling it out every three weeks and turning it on that big a deal.
I am guessing yours hasn’t bricked yet, so I think it’s just more internet rumors.

I just got the scanner about an hour ago. First thing I did was open the physical copy of the manual and read through it completely. Not one mention of checking in every month to keep it working.
If it were a critical function it would certainly be mentioned somewhere in the manual. I think someone heard something somewhere and repeated it in the forums.
