First, I cannot figure out how to increase the volume on Text Messages when playing them.

I've gone through the Multimedia Owner's Manual, page 82, where I believe it explains how to increase the volume, but the settings to adjust this are "greyed" out, i.e.: will not adjust. I go to SETTINGS - SOUND AND MEDIA - LEVELS and Ringtone, New Message and Received Volume are all greyed out and not adjustable (see photo). Does this sound right.....am I missing something?

And, is there a way for the Music to temporarily stop playing when a Text Message is played back? Currently, both the Music and Text Message play at the same time making it impossible to hear the Text Message.

Any help from you experienced folks would be greatly appreciated!

I think you have to adjust the volume while the text is playing

Check the volume on the phone. I have had issues with volume in another vehicle that was fixed by increasing the phone volume.

As stated adjust volume while text is playing...
Think it wont help much though...
    Its weird...
When your talking on the phone while driving, the conversation loudness you can crank-up to the moon!
Volume loudness for the navigation system & as you stated the text play-back, is whisper quiet.....
I think it is what it is & no solution, atleast from the whoops ive attempted to jump through.
I even had the service manager at my dealer take a crack at it as all the writers stated he was the man when it come to all the in's & out of the infotainment programming...

Does your text messages play while the music is playing? The music cuts off while the text message is played in my other autos.

Why are the text message volume adjustments greyed out if anyone knows? You can see my adjustments are all greyed out in the attached photo. Is this normal????

the other day I did have the radio on & said hey siri read me my most recent text...
It read the text & radio didnt cut-off at all....
I cant say if it does it all the time, if it was just a momentary glitch, I cant recall if ive ever previously tried getting texts while listening to radio.
But did just the other day experienced it, cant understand anything at that moment.
I also tried cranking volue during the text, nothing happened...
Ill go & attempt to replicate / retest now & report back...

FWIW: On my 2014, the current audio mutes when the initial voice announcement comes in. Select play message on the screen and it reads the text. If you can't hear it very good (ie windows open) a few hits of the volume+ button on the steering wheel makes it all good. Somewhere in there I can adjust the volume for the initial announcement from "Gwendolyn" when the notification comes in.

There doesn't seem to be any custom voice choice options though: No Sigourney Weaver, Judge Judy or Roseanne Barr voice options to bark back at you. Probably a good thing. On a side note, the voice command feature, while a little slow, works very well. I just never use it and can't really explain why honestly. Maybe too complicated? Dunno. On a previous car, I used it all of the time and it was excellent. Nav, climate control, everything. You made a statement or question, it knew what you wanted and delivered.

radio volume doesnt cut-out, dont even think it dims while its reading a text message to you...
makes the feature un-usable, can not hear the text enough to comprehend anything...
I did verify while text is being read, turning the radio volume adjusts the text volume, most likely already at loudest option.
If you havent used the NAV, its the same whisper while giving nav directions, frustrating to say the least..

Yeah, try shutting off the 'Auto sound levelizer'. Probably why the adjustments are greyed out.

I have turned that off and the sound adjustments remain greyed out. Could someone please take a look at theirs and see if these three adjustments are greyed out on their Tacoma? I’d sure appreciate it!!!!

Tried accessing these sound settings outside of CarPlay. Still greyed out and unable to change them. Any other suggestions anyone?

Did you actually click it off on the one screen I showed? Where it lists your phone and you toggle it off? When I toggled those other 2 on and carplay off they showed up.

No, I turned off my iPhone to disconnect CarPlay. Where are those settings you took a photo of? I will try that. Thanks so much for helping me!
