Considering all that I have read so far in this thread, and assuming it is true, I would say " sounds like the basis of a Law suit" I would bring this to the attention of the dealer, let them weigh in, they have a legitimate vested interest in the outcome.

I don't know it'll come to a lawsuit unless something does happen to the occur and warranty is not honored or affects the car value if i ever sell it. Like DMV deeming tampered records or car-fax having issues with it. When you say bring this to attention to dealer.. isn't going the dealer in person(they said service managers weren't available I got there around 530PM so give them benefit of the doubt for their schedules. ) than calling them over the phone asking for service manager with them telling you they're going to call back within hour and none of it has happened yet.

Be sure that no matter what they do, have the dealership write a letter to you advising of their odometer screw up. This way if the error shows up on Carfax, you can send the letter to Carfax and they will make the change. You can appeal odometer readings with Carfax.

I had this happen on my 06. It wasn’t a big deal. It shows up on Car fax but you can clearly see all the other odo readings we’re in order. So it wasn’t a thing.

I wonder if California's Attorney General's office could be of some support here? The Texas AG does have as one of it's roles "Consumer Protection" and I'd say this might come under that... You should check the CA AG office if you get no help from the dealership.

I wish you were here to comment this first before I started getting paranoid and invested to finding a official record of the mistake

Another guy had the opposite experience.

So.. 50/50 you're regretting it one day. Most people would rather cover their own ass than believe a dealer who only cares until you're satisfied, whether that's by fixing it quickly by telling you it's fine, for another 6 months.

I'm hoping it doesn't come to that. Waiting for Toyota Corp response and going from there. Without a doubt tho, I'm asking for an official record from toyota of the incorrect record of dealer responsibility, rectified, and copies sent to dmvs and carfax at this point

Factory stuff so far. Mud flaps, tow package, weather mats, bed mat.
Absolutely get the CarFax report fixed or it will come up when you go to sell or trade it. Ran in to it on my BMW that I traded for my Tacoma this summer. Never noticed it until then from service work done four years ago.
Fortunately I had all of my service receipts in chronological order and could show the error. It's more of a PITA the longer you wait.

My add to this: My insurance company charges by miles driven and THEY looked at the CarFax after I told them I did not drive 11,000 mile in a year. Was at 10,000 for 18 months - big reduction and rebate. Still at 14,500 for 30 months. I would get it corrected even if it was just to show you did not abuse it during a resale.

    Sorry man

I mean the only reason this should matter is resale value, right? If someone sees a “odometer error” on the vin report, they’re going to question it.

Anyone with common sense will say: there’s no way you drove 21k miles in month 1, then all of the rest of the service updates the mileage is consisant with that of a normal
    Driver.

If someone / a dealership says that’s a problem, you shouldn’t be dealing with them!

    I wouldn’t worry about it.

For sake of warranty get it corrected. I had something go wrong on my Jetta roughly 1200km after warranty was up. They didn't fix it. Hence why to this day my airbag light is still on.

But imagine in your case something goes wrong 10 000miles from your warranty being up. But this error is there and you aren't covered. Or you go in for a service and you have less than previously reported they may accuse you of modifying it

It may show up on your carfax report, then any future buyer down the road who looks at the report may think you either are not the original owner and it was a used vehicle and/or you reset the mileage.

They record every oil change and service these days on reports like Carfax, its like Equifax for cars!

Went through the same thing on a 2006 Silverado SS truck I had. It caused carfax yo throw a warning on the trucks report and my trade in value was a lot lower due to this. Was getting like $11K offers when it should've been closer to double that. If it were me, I'd make a huge stink and have the dealership get it corrected and give you a carfax showing it had correct info.

Sorry bro but I respectfully disagree, he needs to not sit on something like this carfax and vin reports at the DMV aren' something to play around with in my honest opinion

I'd starta case file with Toyota Corporate, get rhe number, and then call them once a week. They have records of all your communications, Worked for me on a TSB issue.

    Update:
Contacted Toyota Corp service online, got an email that they have contacted the local dealership and the dealership is going to contact me by the 28th to resolve the issue otherwise to call them back directly if no response.

Is this even a common mistake that dealerships make and owners get screwed on? I am surprised this doesn't happen more since its just people entering the info on a computer. Shouldn't there be a some sort of electronic equipment that reads the info from the car.
